Yogi govt to set new benchmark with 24-hour water supply under Jal Jeevan Mission.
Lucknow : The Yogi government is gearing up to set another example by making Uttar Pradesh the first state to achieve a 24-hour water supply under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Villages in Uttar Pradesh, the country’s largest state with the highest number of tap connections, are now preparing for continuous water supply. In the first phase, trial runs commenced in several villages in Lucknow. As the scheme progresses, it will be expanded to other districts in the second phase through tap water connections.
Currently, in Vindhya-Bundelkhand, the water supply will continue only in the morning and evening. The achievement of 24-hour water supply in rural areas is a significant milestone.
Preparations for 24-hour water supply in rural areas have begun. In the first phase, trials have started in some villages of four tehsils around Lucknow. After successful implementation here, it will be extended to many districts in the state.
Currently, the trial run is being conducted in the villages of Udaipur, Bhawa Khera, Kubhara, Kudha, and Dahiyar in Mohanlalganj tehsil; Shankarpur and Parabhadarahi in Mall Block; Kharta and Sherpur Bhosa in Malihabad tehsil; and Godauli in Sarojini Nagar tehsil near Lucknow.
A trial run has been initiated under the Jal Jeevan Mission to provide 24-hour clean drinking water. This initiative aims to monitor various aspects and raise awareness among villagers. The trial run has begun in areas where water is supplied through solar panels.
During the trial, it is ensured that no house in the villages is without a tap. Efforts are being made to prevent any leakage from pipelines or taps to avoid water wastage.
Awareness about water conservation is being promoted through Jal Samiti members, FTK women, and NGOs. Village heads, Jal Samiti members, and others play a crucial role in this effort. The public is being advised not to use the 24-hour available clean drinking water for other purposes.
Currently, in many rural areas, water is supplied for two hours each in the morning and evening. This forces people to store water. Often, when water comes again in the evening, people discard the stored water, leading to wastage.
With the introduction of a 24-hour water supply, the problem of water storage will be resolved. Whenever people turn on the tap, water will be available. This will ensure that people receive fresh and clean water.
Namami Gange and Rural Water Supply Principal Secretary Anurag Srivastava stated that under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the work of providing tap water in the rural areas of Uttar Pradesh is being carried out on a war footing. More than 80% of the villages have been covered by the scheme.
Almost all villages in Vindhya-Bundelkhand are being supplied with tap water. In this direction, the department is moving towards providing 24-hour water facilities in the rural areas of Uttar Pradesh.
The plan is to provide a 24-hour water supply to villagers through all solar-equipped schemes.
