Commissioner & Secretary H. Lalengmawia Holds Review Meeting On Mizoram’s 4-Lane National Highway Project At Kolasib

Kolasib : To ensure smooth progress of the 4-Lane National Highway construction in Mizoram, Pu H. Lalengmawia, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, Environment, Forests & Climate Change (EF&CC), also in charge of Health & Family Welfare and Higher & Technical Education, chaired a high-level review meeting today at the Circuit House Conference Hall in Kolasib. The meeting was attended by officials from the Kolasib District Administration, NHIDCL, and EF&CC Department.

During the meeting, Pu H. Lalengmawia emphasized the need for better coordination between departments — particularly EF&CC, Power & Electricity, and the District Administration — to facilitate efficient and uninterrupted progress of the highway construction. He highlighted that preparatory measures like proper tree enumeration, electrical line relocation, and land clearance must be swiftly addressed in coordination with NHIDCL, P&E, and the Forest Department.

He also stated that any issues arising along the route should be promptly brought to the attention of the District Administration to enable timely resolution.

The 4-lane highway construction currently underway between Vairengte and its adjoining sections (Package 3) was discussed in detail. However, it was noted that due to environmental concerns such as forest clearance and compensatory plantation requirements, progress has faced certain delays. The Commissioner reiterated the importance of proactive efforts and reiterated that the Mizoram Chief Minister and senior officials are keen on ensuring timely completion of the project.

Those present at the meeting included Pu Robert C. Lalhmangaiha, Deputy Commissioner of Kolasib; Pi B. Malsawmtluangi, Additional DC; Pu H. Lalramliana, SDO (Sadar); Pu Agni Mitra, Conservator of Forests (Northern Circle); Pu Saksham Tyagi, Project Manager, NHIDCL; along with other key stakeholders.
