CM Yogi reviews rainfall impact, orders swift relief measures

Lucknow : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on Monday, chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the impact of recent heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh, with a focus on urban waterlogging and rising river levels. Stressing that public convenience is the government’s top priority, he directed officials to take swift and effective action.

Highlighting the situation, the Chief Minister noted that many areas in the state have witnessed intense rainfall, leading to severe waterlogging, road damage, and a significant rise in river water levels. He stressed the need for constant monitoring and instructed all concerned departments, municipal bodies, development authorities, and district administrations to immediately streamline drainage systems and ensure swift removal of stagnant water from affected areas. Quick redressal of complaints and emergency responses must be guaranteed, he added.

In regions like Bundelkhand, where rainfall has been exceptionally high, the Chief Minister instructed the Jal Shakti Minister and the Principal Secretary of the department to personally visit affected areas, assess flood and water structure conditions, and take appropriate action. The Chief Minister also highlighted that 16 districts in Eastern Uttar Pradesh have received below-average rainfall. He directed officials to make adequate irrigation arrangements in advance to safeguard crops and ensure farmers face no hardships.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister directed municipal bodies to ensure regular cleaning of sewer and drainage lines. He instructed that road repairs in waterlogged areas be taken up on a war footing. The Electricity Department was also told to manage power supply in such areas with utmost caution to prevent any accidents.

The Chief Minister stressed the importance of pre-emptive measures in flood-prone and sensitive areas. He directed that relief and rescue teams remain on high alert with boats, searchlights, medical kits, and life-saving equipment ready for deployment. NDRF and SDRF teams must stay in active mode across vulnerable regions, he added.

He underlined that the administration must operate with full alertness and sensitivity to avoid any loss of human or animal life. During such crises, there should be no delay in relocating affected people to safe locations and ensuring the timely provision of food, clean drinking water, medical aid, and other necessities.

All District Magistrates and heads of municipal bodies were instructed to physically inspect waterlogged and flood-affected areas and maintain round-the-clock monitoring through active 24×7 control rooms.

Additionally, the Chief Minister said that the general public must be regularly updated about weather forecasts, rainfall patterns, and water levels. He said, “Local media, social media, and disaster management apps should be used effectively to keep citizens informed and alert.”

Departments of Animal Husbandry, Agriculture, and Revenue were also directed to promptly assess the damage caused by rainfall and waterlogging and initiate relief and compensation distribution without delay.
