August 5: A Historic Date for Gorakshpeeth – 5th Anniversary of Ram Temple Bhoomi Pujan

Lucknow : August 5, 2020, holds historical significance for the Gorakshpeeth in Gorakhpur. On this day, the Bhoomi Pujan (groundbreaking ceremony) was performed for the grand and divine Ram Temple at Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya. This moment symbolized the realization of a dream that spanned over a century and three generations of the Gorakshpeeth—Yogi Adityanath, the current Peethadheeshwar (Head Priest) and Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, his revered Guru Brahmalin Mahant Avaidyanath, and his Guru’s Guru, Brahmalin Mahant Digvijaynath.

PM Modi Performed Bhoomi Pujan Five Years Ago
Exactly five years ago, on this date, Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the Bhoomi Pujan for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. As the representative of the Gorakshpeeth and Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath was present alongside other saints, religious leaders, and dignitaries to witness this monumental occasion.

Yogi Adityanath Realizing the Dreams of His Gurus by Transforming Ayodhya
Under Yogi Adityanath’s supervision and with the support of the central government, the construction of the grand temple is nearing completion. Simultaneously, he is transforming Ayodhya into the most beautiful religious tourism destination in the world, fulfilling the long-cherished dreams of his spiritual lineage. Today, Ayodhya boasts excellent rail and road connectivity, an international airport, wide roads, scenic ghats along the sacred Saryu river, and much more. Development works are still ongoing, with new projects being announced during every visit of the Chief Minister to Ayodhya.

Mahant Avaidyanath – The Torchbearer of the Ram Temple Movement
Revered as “Bade Maharaj” by devotees, Mahant Avaidyanath was one of the foremost leaders of the Ram Temple movement. His universal acceptance and leadership made him the face of the struggle for the temple. His lifelong dream was to see a grand and divine temple of Lord Ram built at His birthplace in Ayodhya. Undoubtedly, today his soul would be filled with immense joy, witnessing that the foundation of the temple was laid five years ago by his disciple and current Gorakshpeethadheeshwar, Yogi Adityanath, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The temple is now rapidly taking shape under the capable leadership of Yogi, in line with his Guru’s vision and aspirations.

Gorakshpeeth’s Involvement in Every Key Moment of the Ram Temple Movement
For over a century, the Gorakshpeeth and its successive heads have played pivotal roles in every significant event related to the Ram Temple movement.
In December 1949, when the idol of Ram Lalla miraculously appeared at the disputed site in Ayodhya, Brahmalin Mahant Digvijaynath, Yogi Adityanath’s Guru’s Guru, was present in Ayodhya. In 1986, when the locks of the temple were opened, Mahant Avaidyanath (Bade Maharaj) was again present in Ayodhya, actively involved in the movement.

Moreover, after the Supreme Court’s historic verdict on the Ram Temple, Yogi Adityanath personally oversaw the relocation of Ram Lalla from a makeshift tent to a silver throne in a temporary structure until the temple’s completion.

It is rare in history to witness three successive generations of a lineage adopting and fiercely struggling for the realization of a shared dream. This relentless dedication has now materialized in the form of a rejuvenated Ayodhya and the grand, divine Ram Temple at Ram Janmabhoomi.
