Remove Encroachments and Immediately Develop Roads in Those Areas to Avoid Traffic Congestion – Ajit Pawar

Pune, Aug 2025 : To ensure smooth traffic flow in areas like Hinjewadi and Chakan, roads must be developed immediately after the removal of encroachments. Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar directed concerned authorities to coordinate and take urgent steps to widen and develop roads to the required capacity to prevent traffic congestion. He was speaking at a review meeting after inspecting traffic congestion issues in Chakan at the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) headquarters in Akurdi.

The meeting was attended by Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Anna Bansode, MLAs Shankar Mandekar and Babaji Kale, Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase, Additional Commissioner Deepak Singla, District Collector Jitendra Dudi, Zilla Parishad CEO Gajanan Patil, PMRDA Chief Engineer Rinaz Pathan, along with senior officials from the Public Works Department, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), and other departments.

Poor road conditions and traffic congestion in Chakan MIDC and surrounding areas cause significant inconvenience to businesses, workers, and commuters. The large number of encroachers has worsened the problem. Hence, it is necessary to immediately undertake road widening after encroachment removal. If roads are not developed after clearance, encroachments reappear. Pawar instructed that administrative bodies must follow up and ensure immediate road development after encroachment removal through proper coordination.

Given the high volume of heavy vehicles in Chakan and surrounding areas, traffic congestion is frequent. Pawar stressed the need to impose time restrictions on such vehicles and start a truck terminal in the MIDC area. He directed the RTO and police authorities to jointly plan measures for smooth traffic flow. Additionally, the issue of garbage disposal should be addressed, and encroachments in the area removed without delay. If anyone obstructs road development work, legal action should be taken against them.

PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase presented the measures, timelines, and master plan to address traffic congestion in Chakan.

Measures Yielding Positive Results
Over the past month, various administrative agencies have been working intensively to resolve traffic congestion and urban issues in Hinjewadi and nearby areas. Pawar said the progress so far is satisfactory and has brought relief to citizens, and instructed that the same pace be maintained for the remaining works. He added that similar efforts will be implemented for Chakan as well.

On-site Inspection of Chakan and MIDC Area
Pawar inspected urban issues and traffic congestion in Chakan and MIDC areas, gathering details from officials about necessary measures. He visited Bharat Mata Chowk in Moshi, Samruddhi Petrol Pump – Sany Company in Nanekarwadi, Bangla Vasti Medankarwadi – Sase Phata, Chakan Chowk, Ambethan Chowk, Chakan Chowk to Kadchivadi, Hingne Chowk Kharabwadi, and Mahalunge Police Chowki – MIDC Road, issuing instructions for required actions at each location.
