Raipur, Aug 2025 : A team of skilled and experienced ophthalmologists from the Department of Ophthalmology & Regional Institute of Ophthalmology at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, affiliated with Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Raipur, has recently performed four complex corneal transplant (keratoplasty) surgeries in succession, all of which were successful.

Under the guidance of Dr. Nidhi Pandey, the transplants were performed by Dr. Reshu Malhotra, Dr. Smriti Gupta (Cornea Specialist), and Dr. Anju Bhaskar. All patients are showing satisfactory improvement post-surgery. This achievement reflects the department’s expertise, high-quality surgical facilities, and teamwork.

According to cornea specialist Dr. Smriti Gupta, one of the recent transplants has brought light into the dark world of the youngest patient—a six-year-old girl born completely blind in both eyes due to congenital corneal opacity. Her vision is steadily improving.

Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, congratulating the hospital on this major achievement, said that once again it has been proven that eye donation is not just the donation of an organ, but a gift that brings someone’s life from darkness into light. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to those who chose to make the noble decision of donating their eyes, enabling others in need to see the beauty of the world.
