Home Minister Supports Constable Training Programme

Serchhip, Aug 2025 : Home Minister Pu K. Sapdanga graced the inauguration of the new batch of constable training at the Police Training School (PTS), Thenzawl. Supply Minister Pu B. Lalchhanzova also attended the programme.

Speaking at the event, Home Minister Pu K. Sapdanga noted that the newly recruited constables had been selected with fairness and transparency. He remarked that with their induction, the Mizoram Police is entering a new era of expansion. He urged the trainees to dedicate themselves fully during the training to gain knowledge, discipline, and skills that would enable them to serve society effectively. Emphasizing the dignity of the police uniform, he advised them to wear it with pride, discipline, and integrity.

The Home Minister also highlighted the government’s ongoing fight against drugs and alcohol abuse. He pointed out that beyond the dangers of drugs, alcohol has been a major cause of health and social problems, leading to misery and loss of lives. He called upon the trainees to commit themselves to tackling such issues. He also referred to the menace of illegal extortion at check gates and assured that steps were being taken to improve policing standards across Mizoram.

Supply Minister Pu B. Lalchhanzova, in his speech, reminded the constable recruits of their privileged position and urged them to value the opportunity to be trained at PTS Thenzawl. He encouraged them to live a disciplined and purposeful life, stressing that police officers must become role models in society. He added that police are the guardians of the Mizo community, and citizens look up to them with high expectations.

Director General of Police Pu Sharad Agarwal stated that this recruitment drive was the largest in Mizoram in the past 10 years. Addressing the recruits, he explained that the constable training is the foundation for their career in the police force. With proper training, they would be able to serve Mizoram with dedication and competence.

This batch marks the 70th Constable Basic Training Programme, comprising 277 recruits, including 26 women. The training will officially begin on 1st September 2025, preceded by a “zero week” for orientation and adjustment. The training will run intensively for 45 weeks (indoor and outdoor), with completion expected by July 2026. The curriculum is designed to instill discipline, self-reliance, community responsibility, and patriotism.

  • Mamit District: 12
  • Kolasib District: 19
  • Hnahthial District: 6
  • Saitual District: 12
  • Siaha District: 4
  • Khawzawl District: 5
  • Lawngtlai District: 3

Today’s programme was presided over by PTS Vice Principal Pi Zomuanpuii. PTS Principal Pu Lalthakima expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, while Addl. SP (Training Branch) Pi C. Lalbiaksiami also delivered words of thanks before the event concluded.
