Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana – Strengthening Motherhood

Raipur, Sept 2025 : Motherhood is one of the greatest joys in a woman’s life, but it also brings with it numerous responsibilities and challenges. During pregnancy, physical weakness, household workload, and financial constraints often affect the health of both mothers and children. To address these challenges, the Government of India launched the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, which has now become a source of strength and support for expectant mothers across the state.

Beneficiary women from Mahasamund district – Mrs. Anshuni Sai, Mrs. Rekha Dewangan, Mrs. Rajkumari Nishad, and Mrs. Tabassum Khatoon – shared that the scheme not only provided them financial support but also gave them the courage and opportunity to take care of their own and their child’s health. With the scheme’s assistance, they were able to afford nutritious food, and today both mother and child are healthy. Inspired by their experiences, they are encouraging other pregnant women to benefit from the scheme as well.

District Programme Officer of the Women and Child Development Department, Mr. Tikvendra Jatwar, explained that the objective of the scheme is to ensure adequate rest and nutrition for pregnant mothers, so that both mother and child remain healthy, laying the foundation for a stronger next generation.

Over the last three years, 19,036 pregnant women in Mahasamund district have received assistance worth ₹6.32 crore under this ambitious scheme. Beneficiaries receive ₹3,000 during the seventh month of pregnancy after registration, and another ₹2,000 three and a half months after delivery when the child is vaccinated. Additionally, if a girl child is born during the second delivery, the mother is given a special incentive of ₹6,000, promoting respect and security for the birth of daughters.

This scheme goes beyond financial aid—it is a true celebration of motherhood. The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana has brought hope, nourishment, and security into the lives of mothers, strengthening the foundation of a healthier and empowered society across the state.
