Raipur, Sept 2025 : Pt. Nehru Medical College, the largest in the state, along with its associated Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, continues to win the trust of not only patients from the state and country but also from abroad with its excellent medical services. Owing to its team of experienced doctors and simplified treatment procedures, the hospital has established itself as one of the most reliable healthcare institutions.

In a recent case, the General Surgery Department successfully operated on a 20-year-old girl from Rwanda (East Africa), who was diagnosed with a benign fibro-epithelial tumor in her left breast. The surgery, led by Dr. Manju Singh, Head of the General Surgery Department, was notable for ensuring that the removal of the tumor would not affect the patient’s future life, particularly her maternal health.

According to Dr. Manju Singh, the patient has now fully recovered and is being discharged from the hospital. She explained that the young woman had come to the breast clinic with complaints of pain in her left breast. Investigations confirmed the presence of a benign fibro-epithelial tumor. Following a biopsy, surgery was performed while maintaining breast cosmesis. Wide local excision of the tumor and surrounding tissue was carried out, with special care to preserve the natural shape and size of the breast, while also ensuring that no visible scars remain after surgery.

Dr. Vivek Choudhary, Dean of Pt. Nehru Medical College, said it is a matter of pride that the institution is attracting patients not only from across India but also from abroad, who return home healthy after treatment. The successful surgery of the young woman by the General Surgery Department is a testament to the skill, dedication, and commitment of the medical team. He congratulated the team for their achievement and assured that the institution will continue to provide world-class medical services in the future.

The recent achievements of Ambedkar Hospital’s Surgery Department highlight that government hospitals are not only accessible and affordable but also provide high-quality medical care. This is why foreign patients are now choosing this hospital for treatment.

Dr. Santosh Sonkar, Medical Superintendent of Ambedkar Hospital, informed that the hospital’s General Surgery Department regularly runs a Breast Clinic. Every month, 300–400 breast-related cases are examined by women doctors, and surgeries are performed when necessary. Currently, the department is also performing breast reduction surgeries, where abnormally shaped breasts are restored to normal through surgical procedures.

The surgical team included Dr. Manju Singh, Dr. Amit Agrawal, Dr. Manish Sahu, Dr. Kritika, and Dr. Tapish, with anesthesia support from Dr. Pratibha Shah, Dr. Manjulata Tandon, and others.

It is worth noting that earlier, a young woman from South Africa had also been successfully treated in the General Surgery Department.
