MoU Signed Between Mahagenco and NMRDA in Presence of Chief Minister

Eco-Tourism Project to Come Up in Koradi Area of Nagpur Metropolitan Region

Mumbai, Sept 2025: An MoU was signed between the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) and the Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Ltd. (Mahagenco) in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for the development of an eco-tourism site at Koradi (Taluka Kamptee) in Nagpur Metropolitan Region.

As per the agreement, Mahagenco will lease 232.64 hectares of land to NMRDA for 30 years at a nominal rent of ₹1 per year to develop the eco-tourism project.

On this occasion, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal, Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary (Industries–1) Asim Kumar Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary of Energy Department Abha Shukla, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Ashwini Bhide, Mahagenco Chairman and Managing Director Radhakrishnan B, and NMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Sanjay Meena were present.

The land given on lease by Mahagenco is spread across Mouza Koradi, Mouza Mahadula, Mouza Khaparkheda, Mouza Nanda (Taluka Kamptee), and Mouza Ghogali (Taluka Nagpur Rural). Situated amidst natural resources, the site is ideal for the development of a world-class eco-tourism destination.

The project will primarily focus on sustainable, water-based activities, including non-motorized boating (paddle boats, kayaks, canoes), eco-friendly shikara and floating deck rides, bird-watching from floating platforms, and nature-based tourism initiatives.

Since the allotted land is close to important urban and natural resources of Nagpur, it will be developed as an international-standard eco-tourism hub. The initiative is expected to boost the tourism industry, create new employment opportunities for locals, and drive socio-economic development of the surrounding areas. It was also clarified that all environmental protection norms will be strictly adhered to during the project’s implementation.

MoU Highlights:

  • Duration: Initially 30 years, renewable thereafter; annual rent fixed at ₹1.
  • Mahagenco’s Rights: Full ownership and control will remain over the existing thermal power plant and sewage treatment plant.
  • NMRDA’s Rights: Exclusive rights to use the waterbody surface area for eco-tourism activities.
  • The proposal has already been approved by Mahagenco’s Board of Directors.
