Amaravati, Nov 2025 : N. Shree Charani, a member of India’s 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup–winning squad, called on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at his official residence on Friday. She was accompanied by former India captain Mithali Raj, who joined the visit to congratulate the young cricketer on her stellar World Cup performance.
State Human Resources Development and Information Technology Minister Nara Lokesh welcomed Shree Charani and Mithali Raj upon their arrival. The meeting highlighted the pride Andhra Pradesh feels for its rising cricket star, who played a key role in India’s championship victory.
Chief Minister Naidu expressed his admiration on X, posting a photo with the caption: “Selfie with a spinner who made India a winner.”
Minister Lokesh also shared his sentiments online, writing: “Honoured to welcome Indian women’s cricket star Shree Charani and former captain Mithali Raj to our residence in Amaravati.”
Both the Chief Minister and the minister congratulated Shree Charani for her remarkable contribution to India’s World Cup victory. Naidu praised her for showcasing the power, resilience, and determination of Indian women on the global stage. “Her achievement truly highlights the strength and spirit of Indian women and will inspire generations of young athletes,” Lokesh added.
During the meeting, Shree Charani shared her joy and experiences from the World Cup campaign, expressing gratitude for the support she received from Andhra Pradesh.
Earlier in the day, Shree Charani received a grand welcome at Gannavaram Airport, Vijayawada. She was greeted by Andhra Cricket Association President Keshineni Chinni, Secretary Sana Satish, Ministers Anitha, Savita, Sandhyarani, and Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh Chairman Animini Ravi Naidu. The celebratory reception reflected the state’s admiration for her achievements.
Hailing from Yerramala Palle, a small village in Kadapa district, Shree Charani’s journey has been marked by dedication and consistent hard work. Making her international debut in April, she impressed in her first-ever World Cup, claiming 14 wickets in the tournament. In the final against South Africa, she delivered a crucial breakthrough by trapping Anneke Bosch lbw for zero, shifting momentum back in India’s favour. Her semifinal performance against Australia was equally impactful, with figures of 2 for 49 in a disciplined 10-over spell.
Trained by her uncle, Kishore Kumar Reddy—a part-time cricketer at the Rayalaseema Thermal Power Station—Shree Charani’s rise from a small village to world champion stands as an inspiring story for aspiring athletes across India.
