‘Mission Lakshyavedh’ Opens New Opportunities for Athletes in Mumbai City

Mumbai, Dec 2025 : Under the state government’s ambitious Mission Lakshyavedh scheme, the government has approved the establishment of a Sports Talent Development Centre in Mumbai City district. Through this centre, special encouragement will be given to groom athletes capable of winning medals at the Olympic, national, and international levels. Athletes from Mumbai City will also benefit from this initiative, which has received a positive response at the district level.

The Sports Talent Development Centre will include training in five sports—badminton, boxing, shooting, lawn tennis, and table tennis. Selected athletes will receive professional training under the supervision of expert sports coaches. In addition, the government will provide modern sports equipment, sports kits, nutritional supplements, medical treatment, insurance coverage, and expenses for participation in domestic competitions.

Athletes who have shown notable performance at the district, state, and national levels will be given priority. The selection of players will be carried out in stages. Talented athletes from Mumbai City have been urged to take advantage of this scheme.

Interested and eligible sports coaches and training centre operators for this programme are required to submit their applications along with necessary documents by January 2, 2026, to the District Sports Officer Office, Mumbai City, Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi District Sports Complex, Sion (West), Dharavi, Mumbai. Applications can also be sent via email to dsomumbaicity@gmail.com.

Due to this initiative, athletes in Mumbai City will gain access to high-quality sports training and receive a new direction to progress towards the Olympic level, said District Sports Officer, Mumbai City (Dharavi), Mark Dharmai, in a press release.
