Rajasthan’s Road Safety Drive: Over 3.37 Lakh Citizens Made Aware; 5,540 Drunk Drivers Penalised

Jaipur, Nov 2025 : Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, the Rajasthan government is committed to building a safe and disciplined traffic system. The 15-day Road Safety Campaign, being held from November 4 to 18 across the state, is playing a key role in strengthening road safety. Extensive measures are being implemented to improve road infrastructure and raise awareness among drivers. The joint efforts of various departments are giving new momentum to the state’s mission for safer travel.

– Police intensify action: 36,778 penalised for overspeeding
Strict enforcement against traffic violations continues under the ongoing campaign. Between November 4 and 11, the Police Department took action against:

  • 5,540 for driving under the influence of alcohol,
  • 36,778 for overspeeding,
  • 26,160 for wrong-side driving,
  • 2,355 for dangerous driving,
  • 7,507 for driving without reflectors, and
  • 14,154 for driving without number plates.

In total, 3,37,560 citizens were educated about traffic rules and safe driving practices.

On various national highways, police units have been promoting the implementation of a lane-driving system modeled on NH-48. Teams were deployed to ensure compliance, and violators were fined to encourage disciplined lane driving.

– Transport Department fines over 14,200 vehicles; cancels 350 driving licences
The Transport and Road Safety Department has also taken major action under the campaign, issuing 14,278 challans (penalty tickets) across the state (as of November 11).

  • Of these, 912 were for overloading goods vehicles,
  • 322 for carrying passengers in goods vehicles, and
  • 9,469 for other violations by goods carriers.
Among passenger vehicles, 170 were penalised for carrying excess passengers, 34 for carrying luggage on rooftops, and 1,806 for other violations.

The department has cancelled 350 driving licences and revoked the registration of 79 vehicles. Additionally, 718 vehicles were seized, and permits of 37 vehicles were cancelled. Several other cases were also booked during the campaign.

– Health Department conducts eye check-ups for 1,500 commercial drivers
The Medical and Health Department conducted eye examinations for 1,501 commercial drivers (truck and bus) on November 12 along national and state highways. Of these, 264 drivers were provided with corrective eyeglasses. So far, 9,507 drivers have undergone eye tests under the campaign, and 1,527 glasses have been distributed to those in need.

– Coordinated efforts by multiple departments
The state government’s road safety campaign is being carried out through coordinated action by several departments and district administrations:

  • Public Works Department (PWD): Removed roadside shrubs, repaired speed breakers, installed cautionary and direction signboards, and closed unauthorised road cuts in various districts.
  • Urban Development and Local Bodies Department: Freed footpaths from encroachments, repaired streetlights, and ensured the safe relocation of stray animals from roads to designated shelters.

Together, these measures are helping build a culture of road discipline and safety across Rajasthan. The campaign highlights the government’s focus on not just enforcing traffic laws but also creating awareness and improving infrastructure — paving the way toward safer roads and responsible driving across the state.
