CURAÇAO ride wave to their inaugural World Cup berth.

Curaçao remained unbeaten at the “The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football” (Concacaf) qualifying campaign to clinch their First Ever berth in the FIFA World Cup.

For the last decade, football in Curaçao has grown by leaps and bounds and it has culminated with qualification to their first FIFA World Cup. The Blue Wave are on their way to next year’s global showpiece in North America after finishing atop Group B in the third round of Concacaf qualifying.

Curaçao defied the oddsmakers by going into Kingston on Tuesday night and securing a dramatic goalless draw with Jamaica to book their spot in the 48 Team tournament.

Under the guidance of experienced head coach Dick Advocaat, Curaçao completed a sparkling qualifying campaign in which they went unbeaten in ten matches. They roared to victories over Barbados, Aruba, Saint Lucia and Haiti in the second round, scoring a whopping 15 goals along the way.

They were just as good in the third round where they were drawn with Caribbean heavyweights Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Bermuda. A 2-0 home win over Jamaica was one of the highlights, as was an emphatic 7-0 triumph in Bermuda to open the November window.

With players like Tahith Chong, Kenji Gorre and brothers Leandro and Juninho Bacuna leading the way, Curaçao will arrive to the FIFA World Cup 26 brimming with belief that this new, blue wave forming in the southern Caribbean is only the start.
