Smooth Paddy Procurement Boosts Farmers’ Confidence — Rural Economy Revives with New Energy
Raipur, Nov 2025 : To ensure prosperity for farmers and give a new direction to agriculture in the state, the Chhattisgarh government has made the system of paddy procurement at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) more transparent, simple, and farmer-centric. Paddy procurement for the Kharif marketing year 2025–26 began across Chhattisgarh on 15 November, and the results so far have been highly encouraging.
In Dhamtari district, farmers have shown exceptional enthusiasm for paddy procurement. By 19 November, a total of 1,56,761 quintals of paddy had been procured from 3,431 farmers at the district’s 100 procurement centres. This reflects the growing trust of farmers in the system.
Echoing this trust is farmer Dipesh Kumar Dewangan, who arrived at the Sambalpur procurement centre to sell his paddy. He shared that this year the process of selling paddy has become far smoother and more transparent than ever before. The online token system has completely eliminated the problem of long waiting hours. Receiving a token at a fixed time has prevented crowding as well as mismanagement at the centres.
Dipesh sold 76 quintals of paddy this year, nearly equal to last year’s quantity. He said that last year’s timely payment helped him significantly in his agricultural activities, and he hopes to receive prompt payment this year too. The money he earns from selling paddy is used for agricultural improvements, purchasing seeds and fertilizers, and meeting family needs.
Praising the arrangements at the centre, Dipesh said they no longer have to depend on middlemen. The system here is truly commendable, and the cooperation of the staff is praiseworthy. “We are now receiving the right value for our hard work,” he added.
Like Dipesh, other farmers such as Hansraj and Shatrughan also appreciated the positive improvements in the procurement system. They believe that due to the reforms implemented by the administration, the process has become extremely smooth this year. Better management, faster weighing, online transparency, and continuous monitoring by officials have significantly strengthened farmers’ trust.
The efforts of the government and district administration are not only helping increase farmers’ incomes but also proving to be a major step toward making them self-reliant. Farmers expressed hope that such transparent and reliable arrangements will continue in the future as well.
