White House Says Trump in “Excellent” Cardiovascular Health After Unannounced MRI

Dec 2025 : US President Donald Trump is in “excellent” cardiovascular health, his physician said on Monday, following an MRI scan conducted during an unannounced hospital visit that had sparked renewed scrutiny over the president’s medical condition.

The Republican leader, who turns 80 in June, has long faced criticism for offering limited transparency about his health. His unexpected visit to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on October 10—outside the schedule of his routine annual physical—triggered speculation about what had prompted the evaluation.

In a memo released by the White House, presidential physician Dr. Sean Barbabella said the advanced imaging was entirely preventive and not prompted by any specific complaint or emergency.
The MRI, he stated, was performed to “identify issues early, confirm overall health, and ensure he maintains long-term vitality.”

“Overall, his cardiovascular system shows excellent health. His abdominal imaging is also perfectly normal. All major organs appear very healthy and well-perfused,” Barbabella wrote.

MRI scans, or magnetic resonance imaging tests, are widely used to detect serious medical conditions including tumors, strokes, and neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, as well as mild issues like muscle tears or inflammation.

For weeks, Trump—who remains the oldest person ever sworn in as president—had avoided directly answering journalists’ questions about the purpose of the hospital visit, instead urging them to seek clarification from his medical staff.

During his second term, observers have frequently noted bruising on Trump’s right hand, sometimes concealed with makeup. The White House has attributed these marks to the aspirin he regularly takes as part of a “standard” cardiovascular wellness regimen.

Earlier this summer, the administration also disclosed that Trump had undergone evaluation for swelling in his legs and was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency—a common circulatory condition in which weakened vein valves cause blood to pool in the lower limbs, leading to swelling, cramps, and skin changes. The condition is typically manageable with medication or minimally invasive procedures.

With the latest MRI findings, the White House hopes to quell speculation surrounding the president’s health as he continues his duties heading into another demanding year in office.
