Indore to be among country’s leading metropolitan cities in coming years: Chief Minister Dr. Yadav

A crucial meeting to give new momentum to the development of Indore was held on Sunday at the Brilliant Convention Center under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. The Chief Minister announced several development initiatives and took many important decisions to accelerate infrastructure development. In this marathon meeting, several major decisions were taken keeping in mind the future of Indore and its extended metropolitan region.

Public representatives, departmental officers, and experts participated in the meeting and discussed issues related to city infrastructure, traffic, industry, education, the metropolitan region, eastern and western bypasses, economic corridors, local transport, IT, tourism, and the master plan.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that this meeting would prove to be a milestone in the direction of Indore’s development. He expressed confidence that all projects would be implemented on the ground within the stipulated time frame and that Indore would be included among the country’s leading metropolitan cities in the coming years.

Major portion of metro to be underground — State Govt to provide ₹800–900 crore

Detailed discussions were held on finalizing the metro project routes. It was stated that even after revising the original proposal, problems persisted; therefore, it was suggested that the main portion of the metro be made completely underground. A decision was taken accordingly. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the state government would bear a financial burden of approximately ₹900 crore for this. He stated that this decision was taken keeping Indore’s future in mind so that the metro provides maximum benefit to the public and improves traffic management.

Construction of elevated corridor to begin soon

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the elevated corridor project is extremely important for Indore’s traffic system and that its construction should begin soon. He directed that technical experts and public representatives should soon meet to finalize the design regarding junctions, rotaries, and length of the corridor.

After the removal of BRTS, it was decided to prepare an integrated traffic plan based on a new scientific traffic survey. The Chief Minister said that this project would provide a permanent solution to Indore’s traffic problems for the next 25–50 years.

Expansion of Indore Metropolitan Region — Malwa to be integrated over 14,000 sq km

It was decided to expand the Indore Metropolitan Region from a future perspective. By integrating Ujjain, Dewas, Dhar, Ratlam, Nagda, Badnawar, and Shajapur–Makshi areas, a metropolitan region of approximately 14,000 square kilometers will be developed.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that this region, with more than five major railway junctions, one international airport, proposed future airports at Ujjain and Ratlam, the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, the Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor, and the Indore–Manmad railway line, would form the foundation to develop Indore as a major national hub for trade, industry, and tourism.

Startup Park and International Convention Center to give Indore a new economic identity

It was decided to establish an international-level startup park and convention center near MR-10. It was informed that the Government of India is also ready to promote this project. This will make Indore the largest innovation center in Central India.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the convention center should be developed on the lines of Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The estimated cost of the convention center is ₹550–600 crore, with a target of completion within three years. It is proposed to be operated through the PPP model. The indoor capacity will be 5,000 and outdoor capacity 10,000.

Hukumchand Mill project to become a national model

It was informed that the implementation of the Hukumchand Mill project will begin soon. The land has been registered in the name of the Madhya Pradesh Housing Board and transferred accordingly. A DPR has been prepared for the development of the entire 17.5-hectare land, and the tender process is underway. The target is to complete the work within the next three years.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the land should be developed in a manner that becomes a model for the country, with the involvement of top national planners and encouragement to major investors.

Redevelopment of 12 hectares of PWD land

A decision was taken to redevelop 12 hectares of PWD land located at Palasia. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav emphasized that greenery, air quality, and open spaces must be specially protected in the plan.

Smart Indore — IT, CCTV, future-ready systems

Decisions were taken to make Indore a future-ready city. The Chief Minister directed fast-paced work on the installation of a smart CCTV network, development of advanced IT infrastructure, operation of the e-bus project, and implementation of smart traffic systems.

It was informed that a public-participation-based CCTV network would be established. A total of 13,690 locations have been identified, where around 60,000 cameras will be installed and monitored through an integrated control room. CCTV surveillance will also be set up on national highways.

It was also informed that PM e-Bus services will be launched, under which 270 e-buses will operate in the city starting from March. This will strengthen public transport.

Slum-free Indore and housing schemes

Important decisions were taken for the complete rehabilitation of slum settlements by linking them with the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and providing permanent housing. Under this initiative, 150,000 houses will be constructed over the next three years. DPRs are currently being prepared for 10 locations.

AstroTurf grounds and new sports facilities

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that Indore is the capital of sports and that athletes will be provided with the best facilities without any compromise. AstroTurf grounds, new sports fields, and modern sports facilities will be developed, making the city a hub for sports festivals and national tournaments.

Universities to become employment-generating education centers

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that industrial development in the state is gaining new direction, with rapid establishment of industries and vast employment opportunities. Efforts should be made to establish universities in Madhya Pradesh that not only impart education but also generate employment.

He said that the Malwa region has immense potential for the expansion of food parks, as well as medical tourism, wellness centers, IT investment, and employment. The PM MITRA Park at Badnawar will prove to be a milestone in industrial development. He directed that investor summits be organized to encourage investment in these sectors. He said that Indore and the entire Malwa region are moving toward becoming a major industrial powerhouse.

Integrated development plan for Indore

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that Indore and surrounding areas are developing rapidly and that an integrated plan should be prepared to ease traffic and develop transport-related infrastructure. This plan should also be prepared at the zonal level and include departments related to transport, metro, traffic police, local bodies, district administration, and construction.

To accelerate the construction of master plan roads, it was decided to rationalize betterment charges and speed up the construction of missing links. Possibilities of granting FAR–TDR and allotment of plots will also be explored. It was informed that construction of the western and eastern bypasses will begin soon. The western bypass will be 68 km long, while the eastern bypass will be 83.63 km long.

It was also decided to construct four-lane service roads on both sides of the bypasses at a cost of ₹543 crore, which will ease traffic in the city and on the bypasses.

Indore–Pithampur Economic Corridor to gain momentum

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav reviewed the Indore–Pithampur Economic Corridor and directed that its construction be expedited and developed in its complete form. Efforts should be made to rapidly establish industrial units, encourage investors, and provide necessary support to landowners.

Urban Development and Housing Minister Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya, Water Resources Minister Shri Tulsiram Silawat, MP Shri Shankar Lalwani, Mayor Shri Pushyamitra Bhargava, along with MLAs and other public representatives, gave important suggestions.

Police Commissioner Shri Santosh Kumar Singh shared information on initiatives for the safety of women and girls in Indore, including public awareness campaigns, the Mahila Shakti Vahini mobile patrolling service, resolution of 66% of complaints through mediation centers, and the recovery of 879 missing girls so far this year under the Muskan campaign.

Collector Shri Shivam Verma provided detailed information on ongoing and proposed development projects in Indore. Senior officials and public representatives from various departments were present at the meeting.
