Lucknow, Dec 2025 : The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a major initiative to make science and mathematics education more experiential, engaging, and effective for students in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs). Under the leadership of Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh, the ‘Learning by Doing’ program will enable girls to understand subjects not just through textbooks, but also through experiments, activities, and hands-on experiences.

Currently, science and mathematics teachers from all KGBVs across the state are undergoing specialized training at the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD). The training aims to equip teachers with modern teaching methodologies integrated with skill-based education, making classroom instruction more interactive, participatory, and results-oriented.

The ‘Learning by Doing’ program is designed to bring qualitative improvements in science and mathematics teaching. It will help students develop reasoning ability, problem-solving skills, scientific thinking, and self-confidence. This initiative will transform KGBVs into not just residential schools but also laboratories of skills and understanding. Girls from rural, marginalized, and socially disadvantaged backgrounds will particularly benefit, gaining access to modern, equitable, and high-quality education.

Quote:
“The state government is committed to ensuring that every girl receives quality education along with skill development and equal opportunities. The ‘Learning by Doing’ program in all KGBVs reflects this vision, where science and mathematics will be taught through experiments and hands-on learning. This initiative will empower girls from rural and disadvantaged backgrounds to compete and thrive in the future.”
— Sandeep Singh, Basic Education Minister, Uttar Pradesh

Funding for Tools, Experiment Materials, and Consumables
For effective implementation of the program, the state government has allocated ₹43,250 to each KGBV for purchasing tools, experiment materials, and consumables required for the ‘Learning by Doing’ program. These resources will allow students to practically understand scientific and mathematical concepts through experiments.

Local-Level Procurement via School Management Committees
Purchases will be made locally through the School Management Committees to ensure timely availability of materials as per school needs. District Coordinators (DCs) have been assigned the responsibility of monitoring and evaluating the program to ensure that funds are used transparently and for academic purposes.

Official Instructions to Authorities
Officials have been instructed to implement the program in a timely, transparent, and high-quality manner so that girls not only become proficient in science and mathematics but also move confidently toward a self-reliant future.

Quote:
“Through the ‘Learning by Doing’ program, science and mathematics education in all KGBVs is being made practical and experience-based. From teacher training to the availability of necessary tools and consumables at school level, every step ensures that girls learn through experiments rather than just reading textbooks. This initiative will strengthen scientific thinking, reasoning, and confidence among students.”
