Spiritual Leaders Urge Hindu Unity Amid Rising Concerns Over Bangladesh Violence
New Delhi, Dec 2025: Against the backdrop of reports of atrocities against Hindus and growing political unrest in Bangladesh, several prominent spiritual leaders on Thursday called for greater unity among Hindus in India, warning that complacency could lead to similar instability at home. They stressed that collective awareness and action were essential to safeguard social harmony and national stability.
Addressing the media, spiritual leader Dhirendra Krishna Shastri said the developments in neighbouring Bangladesh should be viewed as a serious cautionary signal for India. He urged people not to ignore the unfolding situation and appealed for unity across communities.
“I want to convey a clear message to the people of India. If you do not want a situation like Bangladesh to arise in your country, this is the right time to act. If Hindus fail to unite today, the day may not be far when even states like Chhattisgarh could witness circumstances similar to those being seen in Bangladesh,” Shastri said, underlining the need for vigilance and solidarity.
Echoing similar concerns, Jagadguru Rambhadracharya appealed to people to break their silence and respond firmly to incidents of violence targeting minority communities. “We should no longer remain quiet spectators. All Hindus must unite and raise their voices strongly against these atrocities,” he said, expressing deep concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh has been witnessing widespread unrest in recent weeks, particularly following the death of prominent student activist Sharif Osman Hadi. Hadi reportedly succumbed to his injuries in Singapore after what his supporters described as an assassination attempt in Dhaka. His death triggered large-scale protests across the country, with demonstrators demanding accountability and justice.
Interim leader Muhammad Yunus assured the public that there would be “no leniency” for those responsible for Hadi’s death. Hadi had emerged as a prominent face during last year’s anti-government protests, which eventually led to the fall of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government. His demise has since become a rallying point for renewed agitation and political mobilisation.
Tensions escalated further following the alleged lynching of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu youth from Bangladesh’s minority community, in Mymensingh. According to reports, Das was attacked by a mob over accusations of blasphemy, and his body was allegedly set on fire. The incident sparked widespread outrage, leading to protests by factory workers, students and human rights groups in Dhaka and several other cities.
In India, the incident prompted demonstrations as well. On December 23, a large number of people gathered outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi to protest the killing of Dipu Chandra Das and to demand greater protection for minorities in Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, political tensions in Bangladesh continue to intensify. On December 24, the Awami League alleged that deaths in jail and police custody had risen sharply under the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government, claiming that detention had become “a source of fear rather than protection” for citizens.
Adding another dimension to the volatile situation, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting chairman Tarique Rahman returned to Dhaka on Thursday after 17 years of self-imposed exile. Rahman arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport along with his wife Zubaida Rahman and daughter Zaima Rahman, amid heightened political uncertainty.
Political observers have cautioned that Rahman’s return, coming at a time of sustained violence and protests following the announcement of the election schedule, could further inflame tensions across Bangladesh, deepening an already fragile situation.
