Assam Rifles Strengthens Inter-Agency Coordination in Manipur’s Ukhrul, Kamjong

Imphal, September 2026 : The Assam Rifles has strengthened coordination with civil administration, police and intelligence agencies in Manipur’s Ukhrul and Kamjong districts through a Lead Intelligence Agencies (LIA) meeting aimed at reviewing the prevailing security situation and addressing emerging challenges.

The meeting was convened on Wednesday by Headquarters 10 Sector Assam Rifles to assess developments in the two hill districts and enhance coordination among security and intelligence agencies.

The meeting was chaired by Brigadier Amit Kumar Sharma, Deputy Inspector General of 10 Sector Assam Rifles. Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police of Ukhrul and Kamjong, representatives of police and intelligence agencies, Commandants of units under the sector and staff officers from the headquarters participated in the discussions.

The forum provided an opportunity for stakeholders to review recent developments within the Area of Responsibility and deliberate on issues affecting peace and stability in the region.

According to a defence spokesman, discussions focused on the refugee situation, enforcement of government orders and measures to curb illegal trade. Participants stressed the importance of timely information sharing and coordinated action to strengthen synergy among the agencies.

The interaction also facilitated the exchange of operational inputs and perspectives, helping improve situational awareness and institutional coordination between the civil administration, police, intelligence agencies and security forces.

The active participation of various stakeholders underscored the importance of mutual trust and seamless cooperation in dealing with contemporary security challenges.

The meeting reaffirmed the collective commitment to strengthening inter-agency cohesion and maintaining close coordination to safeguard peace and stability in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.

Assam Rifles Pays Tribute to Fallen Soldiers

Meanwhile, the Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) Headquarters, organised a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at Modi Garrison in Chandel district to commemorate four soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on September 9, 1963.

The ceremony honoured Havaldar Maniliana Lushai, Rifleman Damor Bahadur, Rifleman Satal Singh Rai and Rifleman Mande Thapa, who displayed exceptional courage while confronting insurgents near Zunheboto in the Sapotabhi area of Nagaland.

The soldiers faced grave danger during the operation and demonstrated courage and determination in the line of duty. Their actions reflected the Assam Rifles’ longstanding traditions of duty, honour and service before self.

The wreath-laying ceremony paid tribute to their sacrifice and bravery, while reaffirming the force’s commitment to remembering personnel who gave their lives in the service of the nation.

The two developments highlighted the Assam Rifles’ continuing role in maintaining security and supporting coordinated responses to challenges in the northeastern region.
