New Delhi, September 2026 : BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Wednesday said the party is fully prepared to take on the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab over issues including corruption, drug abuse and the deteriorating law-and-order situation.
Addressing his first press conference after taking charge as the BJP’s national president, Nabin said the party was preparing an aggressive campaign against the AAP government and would raise issues concerning governance and public safety across the state.
“BJP is fully prepared to counter the anarchy and corruption spread by the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab. The BJP will soon launch a comprehensive public campaign against the drug menace in the state,” Nabin said.
The BJP president also questioned the recent induction of certain individuals into the AAP, making an indirect reference to the party’s reported inclusion of Gurpreet Singh Sekhon, who was among the accused in the 2016 Nabha jailbreak case.
Nabin said the BJP would continue highlighting what it described as failures of the Punjab government in maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of citizens.
The BJP is also planning a statewide campaign focused on the drug abuse problem, with Nabin expected to join senior party leaders during the proposed Punjab tour. The programme is aimed at drawing public attention to the growing concerns surrounding drug use and related law-and-order issues.
Nabin had visited Punjab for three days in June, during which the BJP reiterated its decision to contest all 117 Assembly seats in the 2027 state elections.
The party has been seeking to expand its organisational presence in Punjab after its long-standing alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) ended.
Asked about the possibility of the BJP renewing its alliance with its former partner, Nabin declined to comment.
The BJP’s latest campaign plans indicate that the party intends to make governance, corruption, drug abuse and public safety key issues as it prepares for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
