New Delhi, September 2026 : Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday warned the public against misleading and fabricated videos allegedly featuring her, urging people not to fall victim to fraudulent investment offers circulated through social media and messaging platforms.
The warning came after AI-generated deepfake videos using her face and voice reportedly surfaced on several social media platforms. Her office issued a formal scam alert, cautioning people against clicking on such posts or responding to requests for money or personal information made through the videos.
“Fake videos using AI-generated images and voice of Smt Priyanka Gandhi Vadra ji is circulating on WhatsApp, Instagram and other social media platforms asking people to invest money,” her office said in a post on Instagram.
“These are scams. Please do not click or invest,” it added.
Priyanka Gandhi also urged people to block such posts immediately and report them to the relevant authorities so that appropriate action can be taken against those behind the fraudulent campaigns.
The videos reportedly seek to use her public image and voice to lend credibility to investment propositions, including real estate projects and other purported future ventures. By creating convincing digital representations of prominent personalities, scammers attempt to persuade unsuspecting individuals that the investment opportunities are genuine.
Deepfake technology uses artificial intelligence to digitally manipulate or generate a person’s face, voice or other characteristics. While the technology has legitimate applications, its misuse has increasingly become a tool for online fraud, misinformation and impersonation.
Cybersecurity experts have repeatedly warned that deepfake-based scams can be particularly effective because manipulated videos may appear authentic to viewers who are unfamiliar with the signs of digital alteration.
In recent years, similar fraudulent videos involving prominent business personalities have circulated online. Deepfake or AI-manipulated videos featuring Infosys founder Narayana Murthy and Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani have reportedly been used to promote bogus investment schemes and lure people into transferring money.
Authorities and cybersecurity specialists have advised users to independently verify investment claims, particularly when they appear to be endorsed by well-known public figures. Investors should avoid transferring money based solely on videos, social media posts or messages and should verify the identity of the person or organisation offering an investment.
The latest warning from Priyanka Gandhi’s office highlights the growing challenge posed by AI-enabled impersonation. As generative AI tools become increasingly sophisticated, distinguishing genuine content from manipulated material is becoming more difficult for ordinary users.
The Congress MP’s appeal comes as online financial scams continue to evolve, with fraudsters increasingly exploiting the credibility and public recognition of celebrities, politicians and business leaders to target potential victims.
People encountering suspicious videos or investment offers have been urged not to engage with the content, share financial details or transfer funds, and instead report the material to the appropriate authorities.
