Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Leaves for London to Woo Fresh Industrial Investments

Chennai, September 2026 : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will leave for London on Thursday night on his first official overseas visit since the TVK government assumed office, as the state intensifies efforts to attract fresh domestic and international investments.

Vijay is scheduled to depart from Chennai at 10 p.m. and travel to London via Dubai. He will stay in the United Kingdom until September 16 and is expected to return to Chennai at 8 a.m. on September 17, again travelling through Dubai.

A high-level delegation led by the Chief Minister will hold meetings with investors and representatives of major global companies during the visit. Vijay is also scheduled to participate in an investors’ conference in London, where he is expected to showcase Tamil Nadu as a preferred destination for manufacturing, technology and emerging industries.

Senior state government officials have already reached London to make arrangements for the programme. Public Works Minister Aadhav Arjuna has arrived in the British capital, while Industries Minister Keerthana is expected to join the delegation.

The visit comes shortly after the conclusion of the Tamil Nadu Assembly’s Budget session. Officials have been coordinating the Chief Minister’s travel programme and arrangements at Chennai airport ahead of his departure.

The TVK government has set an ambitious target of expanding Tamil Nadu’s economy to $1.5 trillion by 2036, with attracting large-scale investment forming a key component of its economic strategy.

The state has stepped up international outreach as part of this effort. Industries Minister Keerthana recently visited South Korea and held discussions with several companies, including an automobile manufacturer. According to the government, the visit resulted in the signing of investment agreements.

This was followed by a global investors’ meeting in Chennai on August 13, where memoranda of understanding were signed with multiple companies.

The government has claimed that during its first 110 days in office, it signed agreements with 104 companies involving proposed investments of Rs 1,02,514 crore and the potential creation of 1,21,788 jobs.

Tamil Nadu’s renewed investment campaign comes as several states, including neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, compete aggressively to attract major industrial projects. The state government is consequently seeking to expand its international engagement and position Tamil Nadu more strongly in the global investment landscape.

During his London visit, Vijay is expected to focus on converting investor interest into concrete commitments while highlighting Tamil Nadu’s infrastructure, skilled workforce, established industrial base and business ecosystem.

The visit is therefore being viewed as an important step in the TVK government’s broader strategy to accelerate industrial growth, create employment opportunities and move towards its long-term $1.5-trillion economic target.
