Gadayikallu Trek Reopens as Monsoon Eases, Daily Tourist Limit Set at 500

Beltangady, September 2026 : The popular Gadayikallu trekking destination in Beltangady taluk reopened to tourists on September 17 after remaining closed for more than two months due to heavy monsoon rains.

Trekking activities at the site were suspended on July 8 as a precautionary measure in view of the intense rainfall and potentially unsafe conditions. With the monsoon now weakening and weather conditions improving, the wildlife division has decided to resume trekking operations.

To ensure the safety of visitors and regulate the flow of tourists, authorities have capped the number of trekkers at 500 per day. Officials said the restriction would help manage crowds and enable better monitoring of visitors during the trek.

Beltangady Wildlife Range Officer Sharmishta said tourists must register and reserve their trekking slots in advance through the official website. Visitors will be required to arrive at the Gadayikallu entry point on their allotted date.

After reaching the entry point, trekkers can pay the prescribed fee and proceed with the climb.

The reopening is expected to provide an opportunity for trekking enthusiasts to visit the scenic destination as favourable weather conditions return following the monsoon closure.
