Government School Girls Aim for the Stars

Lucknow, Feb 2026 : A major step has been taken in Uttar Pradesh to give new wings to girls’ education and scientific thinking. Under the initiative of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, girls studying in government schools are now learning the fundamentals of space science and exploring the mysteries of the universe. With the establishment of a state-of-the-art astronomy lab in Chhaprauli block of Baghpat district, the dreams of rural students are beginning to take flight.

The hi-tech astronomy laboratory, set up at the Block Resource Centre campus, is providing around 100 girls from the Chhaprauli block an opportunity to understand modern science through hands-on learning. The lab is equipped to conduct 45 different types of experiments, enabling students to grasp complex space-related concepts in a practical and engaging manner.

As a result of this initiative by the Yogi government, girls from rural backgrounds are now actively participating in activities such as operating telescopes and conducting night-sky observations—experiences that were once beyond their reach.

Understanding Celestial Bodies Through Digital Technology

This forward-looking initiative has given fresh momentum to science education. The astronomy lab at the Block Resource Centre in Chhaprauli has been developed using advanced technology. Asmita Lal, District Magistrate of Baghpat, said that along with modern scientific instruments, students are being trained to use astronomy software. Through digital platforms, they are learning about the position, movement, and structure of celestial bodies. Such practical training, she noted, plays a crucial role in developing a scientific outlook among students.

Confidence Grows Through Telescope Observations

One of the most remarkable aspects of this initiative is that students are now directly observing the Moon and other celestial objects using telescopes. When a young girl operates a telescope herself and views the Moon, it not only sparks curiosity but also builds confidence and self-belief.

Serious Interest in Careers Related to Space Science

All students of the Kasturba Gandhi Residential School Chhaprauli are receiving regular training in the astronomy lab. Activities such as night-sky observation have proven to be an exciting and inspiring experience for them. Teachers report that the girls’ interest in science has increased significantly, and many are now seriously considering careers related to space science—dreaming of becoming future scientists like Sunita Williams.

Modern Education Through AI-Enabled Smart Classes

District Magistrate Asmita Lal also highlighted another important step toward modernising education in Baghpat. AI-enabled smart classrooms have been introduced in 25 government schools across the district. These smart classes provide interactive, technology-driven learning experiences, leading to a noticeable improvement in the quality of education.

Together, these initiatives are opening new horizons for girls in government schools, empowering them with scientific knowledge, confidence, and aspirations to reach for the stars.
