Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Announces Development Projects Worth ₹512 Crore for Saharsa During ‘Samriddhi Yatra’
Patna, March 2026: Nitish Kumar on Thursday announced a major package of development initiatives worth ₹512 crore for Saharsa district during his ‘Samriddhi Yatra’ (Prosperity Tour). During the visit, the Chief Minister inaugurated several projects, laid foundation stones for new schemes and launched development works aimed at improving infrastructure and public welfare in the district.
According to officials, the Chief Minister inaugurated 70 development projects worth ₹286 crore, laid the foundation stone for 20 projects costing ₹90 crore, and initiated 35 additional schemes worth ₹136 crore. These projects together amount to a total investment of ₹512 crore for the district.
Review of Development Projects
During his visit, the Chief Minister reviewed the progress of various development projects in Saharsa district. He also sought detailed information from officials regarding the implementation of announcements made earlier during the Samriddhi Yatra and instructed them to complete the projects at the earliest.
As part of the programme, Nitish Kumar inaugurated the Shahpur Jeevika Sewing and Production Centre located in Ward No. 7 of Shahpur in Saharsa. He cut the ribbon and unveiled the plaque to formally dedicate the centre to the public.
After the inauguration, the Chief Minister handed over the keys of the Jeevika Didi Sewing House to women members associated with the self-help group initiative under the Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society. He also inspected the facility and took detailed information about the stitching, cutting and quality of garments produced at the centre.
The women beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and said that the initiative has enabled them to achieve self-employment and financial independence, benefiting their families as well.
Inspection of Local Infrastructure
During the visit, the Chief Minister inspected a pond constructed in the area and directed officials to build a staircase ghat near the pond to improve its accessibility and aesthetic appeal. He also inspected a newly constructed municipal park in the locality.
From the event venue in Shahpur Ward No. 7, the Chief Minister remotely inaugurated and launched the various development projects for Saharsa district.
Monitoring of Key Development Works
Later, Nitish Kumar reviewed the progress of several important infrastructure and tourism-related projects in the district. These included the beautification and development of the Mandan Mishra Dham, improvement works at the Ugratara Temple, and the construction of a sports stadium in Mauja-Hasa Hakpara under Saharsa district headquarters.
He also reviewed the progress of Storm Water Drainage Scheme Phase-II under the Saharsa Municipal Corporation and the tourism beautification project of Matsyagandha Lake. The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that all works are completed within the stipulated timeframe.
Financial Assistance to Self-Help Groups
During the event, the Chief Minister inspected stalls set up by various government departments showcasing development initiatives. He interacted with women associated with self-help groups under the Jeevika programme and distributed a symbolic cheque of ₹133 crore to 3,021 Jeevika Self-Help Groups to support their livelihood activities.
The women beneficiaries thanked the Chief Minister for his efforts toward women’s empowerment and economic upliftment. They said the government’s initiatives have enabled many women to become financially independent and contribute to their families’ welfare.
Nitish Kumar encouraged them to continue their work with dedication and expand their activities further.
Welfare Schemes Benefiting Citizens
The Chief Minister also distributed symbolic cheques to beneficiaries under several welfare schemes, including Mukhyamantri Machhua Kalyan Yojana, Mukhyamantri Samagra Chaur Vikas Yojana, Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthan Yojana, schemes for the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, the Mukhyamantri Nishakt Divyangjan Vivah Protsahan Yojana, and minority welfare programmes.
He also inspected stalls set up by departments such as Health, Education and Industries and reviewed facilities at a childcare centre established at the event venue.
Beneficiaries of the old-age pension scheme thanked the Chief Minister for government support. Residents also expressed gratitude for the state government’s decision to provide free electricity for up to 125 units, saying it has brought significant relief to households.
The Chief Minister urged people to take full advantage of the welfare schemes and emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring development and social security for all sections of society.
Review of Railway Overbridge Construction
During the visit, Nitish Kumar also reviewed the construction work of a Railway Overbridge (ROB) at the Bengali Bazaar railway crossing in Saharsa district. He instructed officials to complete the project quickly to ease traffic congestion in the city.
The overbridge is expected to significantly reduce traffic jams in major areas such as Gandhi Path, Mahavir Chowk, Shankar Chowk, Dahlan Chowk, Refugee Chowk, Kapdapatti, D.B. Road, Purab Bazaar, Gangjala Chowk, Tiwari Chowk, Hatiya-Ranchi Saharsa Basti, the Bus Stand and Sutar Bazaar.
Officials said the project will also improve connectivity along National Highway 107, making travel between Madhepura and Supaul easier and more convenient.

Several senior leaders and officials were present during the programme, including Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Member of Parliament Dinesh Chandra Yadav, Development Commissioner Mihir Kumar Singh, Director General of Police Vinay Kumar, and other senior administrative and police officials.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the state government is committed to accelerating development and ensuring that the benefits of government schemes reach every citizen.
