CSK Post 212/2 Against Delhi Capitals; Ayush Mhatre’s ‘Retired Out’ Move Steals Spotlight

Delhi, April 2026 : Chennai Super Kings delivered a commanding batting performance to post a massive 212/2 in 20 overs against Delhi Capitals, setting up a challenging target of 213 runs in a high-scoring IPL clash.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, CSK got off to a flying start. The opening duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad (captain) and Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper) laid a strong foundation, taking full advantage of the powerplay. The pair attacked from the outset, finding boundaries regularly and keeping the Delhi bowlers under pressure. Their aggressive approach ensured CSK maintained a brisk scoring rate early in the innings.

Even after the first breakthrough, the momentum did not dip. Young batter Ayush Mhatre played a crucial role in consolidating the innings, rotating strike efficiently while punishing loose deliveries. He stitched important partnerships and ensured the scoreboard kept ticking.

However, the biggest talking point of the match came in the death overs when CSK made a bold tactical move. In a rare strategic decision, Ayush Mhatre was “retired out” to bring in a more aggressive batter for the final push. This marked a historic moment, as he became one of the very few players in IPL history to be retired out for tactical reasons.

Following his exit, power-hitter Shivam Dube walked in and immediately accelerated the scoring. Known for his big-hitting ability, Dube added quick runs in the closing overs, helping CSK surge past the 200-run mark. The team’s intent was clear as they went all-out in the final overs, smashing boundaries across the ground.

Contributions also came from Dewald Brevis and Sarfaraz Khan, who ensured there was no slowdown during the middle phase. CSK’s batters displayed excellent shot selection, combining calculated aggression with smart running between the wickets.

On the bowling front, Delhi Capitals struggled to contain the flow of runs. Despite having experienced bowlers like Kuldeep Yadav, T Natarajan, and Mukesh Kumar, the team failed to pick early wickets, which allowed CSK to dominate. Although DC managed to claim two wickets in the middle overs, the damage had already been done.

Now, Delhi Capitals face an uphill task chasing 213 runs. Batters like KL Rahul, David Miller, and skipper Axar Patel will need to deliver a strong and consistent performance to pull off the chase.
