Yogi govt to construct new medical college building at GIMS, Greater Noida
Greater Noida/Lucknow : To further enhance health services within the state, the Yogi government is accelerating the construction of a new medical college building and other development works at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Greater Noida.
In line with CM Yogi’s vision, the project will include the construction of a new building, library, and hostel facilities, with a total investment of Rs 152 crore. The Planning Department has been entrusted with overseeing the completion of this project.
Once finished, these developments will not only improve health services in Greater Noida and surrounding areas, but also support the growth of medical tourism in the state.
The action plan for the proposed new construction and development at GIMS includes five key components. The first component involves the development of the hospital block in Wing 4. The second component focuses on construction and development work in Wing 5 of the medical college. The third component entails the construction of two wings for the male hostel. The fourth component involves building the director’s residence. Finally, the fifth component will address site development and external electrical works.
The first phase of the project involves the development of the hospital block in Wing 4, which will cover a total area of 8,992 square meters and be built with a G+6 design. The ground floor will feature a waiting area of 1,090 square meters, while the first floor will house the administrative office, covering 1,317 square meters.
The second floor will be dedicated to the ENT department, also spanning 1,317 square meters. The third floor will include facilities for emergency and anesthesia services, while the fourth will accommodate the TB and Chest department. The fifth floor will house the Pediatrics department, and the sixth will be dedicated to the Community Medicine department.
The project includes the development and construction of Medical College Wing 5, covering an area of 24,317 square meters with a B+G+6 design. The basement, spanning 9,540 square meters, will be designated for vehicle parking. On the ground floor, the anatomy department and dissection hall will be established.
The first floor will be dedicated to research labs, while the second will house the Biochemistry department and labs. The third floor will feature the Pathology department and labs, and the fourth floor will accommodate Forensic medicine. The fifth floor will include the Dermatology and Psychiatry departments, and the sixth floor will be dedicated to community medicine.
In addition to the primary constructions, two blocks of the male hostel will be developed over a total area of 1,680 square meters. One block will feature triple-sharing accommodations with a capacity for 537 residents, while the other will offer twin-sharing rooms with a capacity for 356 residents. The director’s residence will be built over an area of 300 square meters with a duplex structure.
A library will also be constructed as part of the project. The medical wing will be equipped with 8 modern lifts, each with a 13-passenger capacity, and 2 larger lifts with a 26-passenger capacity. All buildings will include essential facilities such as fire extinguishers, CCTV systems, air conditioning units, diesel generators, and rainwater harvesting modules.
Similarly, upgrades and modernizations are being carried out in various medical colleges and universities across the state, including those in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Meerut, and Kanpur, to meet future needs.
