SEMICON India 2024 to serve as a key milestone in UP’s journey to become a semiconductor hub under the double engine govt

Lucknow : The Yogi government, striving to make Uttar Pradesh a one trillion-dollar economy, is making continuous efforts to establish the state as a hub for semiconductor manufacturing. In line with these efforts, Uttar Pradesh will host SEMICON India 2024 at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida from September 11 to 13.

In addition to SEMICON, Electronica India 2024 and Productronica India 2024 will also be held during this period.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is personally overseeing Uttar Pradesh’s role as the host state for these events. The opening ceremony of SEMICON India 2024 will take place on Wednesday, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath in attendance.

CM Yogi Adityanath will participate in two one-on-one sessions with investors during the event. Additionally, he will inaugurate both the Work Force Pavilion and the Development Pavilion.

Notably, SEMICON India 2024 will see the participation of 255 representatives from 17 countries, including major industry players from the United States, Japan, South Korea, and India.

India is emerging as a key player in the global semiconductor industry, and Uttar Pradesh has significant potential in this field. By highlighting these factors during the event, various industries, including chip manufacturing, are expected to be drawn to invest in the state. It is also noteworthy that, with SEMICON India 2024 being held just before the UP Trade Show 2024, Brand UP will receive extensive promotion and recognition on the global stage.

As part of SEMICON India 2024, an exhibition will be held from 10 am to 6 pm on all three days, from September 11 to 13, where semiconductor manufacturers from around the world will showcase their products. Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate SEMICON India at 11 am on the first day. Following the inauguration, workshops on smart manufacturing will be held, along with a presentation on the semiconductor ecosystem in India.

On the second day of SEMICON India 2024, sessions will focus on cross-regional partnerships, flexible hybrid electronics, supply chain management, industry-academia workshops, and sustainability.

On the final day, September 13, Micron will conduct a package manufacturing bootcamp, and IESA will present a session on the journey of semiconductors thus far. Additionally, IESA will introduce semiconductor fabrication.

The Uttar Pradesh government’s IT and Electronics Department, along with UP Electronics Corporation Limited (UPLC), will actively participate in the program. They are setting up a pavilion spanning 145 square meters, which will showcase the state’s presence and promote sector-friendly policies in electronics, semiconductors, and chip manufacturing.

Investor meetings will also be held at the pavilion, with CM Yogi Adityanath participating in two such sessions on Wednesday.

The SEMICON India Exhibition and Conference will be held alongside Electronica India and Productronica India, two of Southeast Asia’s largest electronics industry fairs. To date, over 24,000 delegates from more than 200 companies have participated in various editions of SEMICON India. As with previous SEMICON events, this edition will feature extensive exhibitions, informative programs, and unique networking opportunities.

The event will attract a range of domestic and international companies, providing them with the opportunity to meet local leaders and government officials while exploring India’s expanding semiconductor ecosystem. The India Semiconductor Mission, an initiative by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has successfully drawn major companies like AMD, Applied Materials, and Micron Technology to invest in the sector.

SEMI and Messe Muenchen India are collaborating with the Electronic Industries Association of India-ELCINA to support the development of India’s semiconductor industry. The regional chip market is projected to exceed $55 billion by 2026. In light of these developments, the Uttar Pradesh government is keenly interested in the sector’s potential and is actively inviting semiconductor industries to explore opportunities in the state.

Here’s why Uttar Pradesh is an ideal location for semiconductor and electronic manufacturing:

  • Uttar Pradesh has immense potential for semiconductor manufacturing and the Yogi government has emphasized on creating a semiconductor ecosystem to encourage investors to invest in this sector.
  • For this, a semiconductor policy has been implemented for the first time in the state.
  • Under the UP Semiconductor Policy, a provision of 50 percent additional capital subsidy has been made on the capital subsidy approved by the Government of India.
  • Apart from this, a land rebate of 75% has also been provided for compound semiconductors / silicon photonics / sensors / ATMP / OSAT in the policy.
  • Along with dual grid network, 100 percent exemption is being provided in electricity duty for 10 years. – Apart from this, provision has also been made for 50 percent exemption on inter-state power purchase, transmission and wheeling charges for 25 years, 100 percent exemption on stamp duty and registration fees and 5 percent interest subsidy per year (maximum Rs 7 crore).

-Electronics Manufacturing Policy was brought by Uttar Pradesh in the year 2020, through which provisions have been made to promote the electronics industry in the state, establishment of electronic clusters and other benefits including subsidy on development of EMC structure.

-Uttar Pradesh is a state which has its own FDI policy and through this it ensures a means of providing incentives along with providing patronage to investors.
