Relief Initiatives for Rain-Affected Areas and Welfare Programs for Differently-Abled and Sanitation Workers – Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin

Chennai : Today, Hon’ble Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inspected areas affected by heavy rainfall, including Sugalathur and nearby regions in Chennai. During his visit, he reviewed drainage works, stormwater management, and other flood prevention measures, including widening canals and desilting operations. He also visited a medical camp in Balaji Nagar and participated in welfare distribution events for differently-abled individuals and sanitation workers.

Amid the recent heavy rains, the Tamil Nadu government has taken several proactive measures. On October 15, the Chief Minister inspected flood-prone areas in Chennai and suburban regions, followed by inspections in other parts of the city on October 16. He issued directives to expedite relief operations and ensure timely completion of restoration works.

The Chief Minister also held discussions with district collectors through video conferencing to assess the ongoing relief efforts in Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, and other districts. He evaluated the conditions in relief camps and the food supplies provided.

In Venus Nagar, a significant stormwater drainage system was implemented at a cost of ₹1.4 crore, which the Chief Minister reviewed to ensure efficient rainwater management. Residents expressed their gratitude for the prompt response in preventing flooding.

The Chief Minister also inspected various development projects, including an ₹44 crore canal renovation to raise the embankment and improve the flood control infrastructure.

At the Thiruvallur Marriage Hall, welfare aid worth ₹2 lakh was distributed to 70 differently-abled students from the CSI New Life Special School, including computers, printers, essential supplies, and funds for school development.

Later, at Jambulingam Pillai Street, the Chief Minister distributed relief packages to 600 sanitation workers, containing essential items such as rice, cooking oil, bedsheets, and personal care products, and shared a meal with them as a gesture of solidarity.

The inspection was attended by Ministers M.K. Muthusamy and P.K. Sekar Babu, Chennai Mayor Priya, MPs, MLAs, and other senior officials.
