Bastar Olympics 2024 is being organized from 5 November to 10 December with the aim of connecting the youth of Bastar region with the mainstream of development, bringing out the sports talent of Bastar and establishing a strong relationship of the people of Bastar with the government. The Chief Minister reviewed the preparations for the Bastar Olympics in a virtual meeting organized on this occasion. Deputy Chief Ministers Shri Arun Saw and Shri Vijay Sharma, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Shri Tankaram Verma were also present. 

In the meeting, Chief Minister Shri Sai directed the officials to ensure all necessary arrangements for accommodation, food, security and medical care of the players. He said that the state government has succeeded to a great extent in establishing peace in Bastar in the last 9-10 months, the central government has contributed significantly in this. He said that Bastar Olympics is being organized with the aim of connecting the youth with the mainstream of society and development. Sports are very popular in Bastar, that is why more than 1 lakh 65 thousand people have registered for the Olympic Games, which shows that the people of this region also want peace and want to join the mainstream of development. A large number of men and women have registered even in the sensitive areas of Bastar. In this, the number of women and men is almost equal. Women also want to join the mainstream of development.

Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Saw said that Bastar Olympics should be organized with grandeur as per its dignity. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma said that maximum participation of players should be ensured in these games. Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Shri Tankaram Verma said that as per the wishes of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, it is being organized with the aim of giving a new direction to Bastar. 

The logo and mascot of Bastar Olympics 2024 have been prepared by incorporating the traditional identity of Bastar

Logo (Symbol)- The famous traditional musical instrument of Bastar region ‘Turhi’ is shown on the left and right side of the logo. Trumpet is played in the fairs of Bastar region in honour of gods and goddesses. It is also used to inform everyone in the village. ‘Bastar Olympics 2024’ is written in Hindi in the middle of the logo, along with it, small symbols of Olympic sports disciplines archery, hockey, weightlifting, football and volleyball are shown to encourage the players of this region towards Olympic sports. Below the logo, the slogan sentence ‘Karsay ta Bastar Barsay ta Bastar’ is written in the local language ‘Gondi’ prevalent in the Bastar region, which is translated in Hindi as ‘Bastar will play, Bastar will grow’.

Mascot – The mascot of Bastar Olympics 2024 mainly depicts ‘Forest Buffalo and Hill Myna’. Forest buffalo is the state animal and hill myna is the state bird. This mascot has been prepared for the purpose of wildlife conservation. Forest buffaloes are found in large numbers in Dantewada and Bijapur districts of the state. Hill myna is mainly found in the dense forests of Bastar region and Kanger Valley National Park.

The mascot depicts the state animal ‘Forest Buffalo’ in sports attire (T-shirt). The happy ‘Pahari Maina’ sitting on the horn of the Forest Buffalo reflects the objective of encouraging participation in sports competitions.

There will be competitions in these games in Bastar Olympics

In Bastar Olympics, sports competitions are being organized at development block, district and division level under 11 sports disciplines. In which players will participate in nine different events in athletic sports like 100m, 200m, 400m race, long jump, high jump, shot put, discus throw, javelin throw and relay race. Apart from this, archery Indian round 30m, 50m, badminton, football, hockey, weightlifting, karate, kabaddi, kho-kho, volleyball and tug of war will be included. Hockey and weightlifting will start directly from district level, competitions in all other sports will be held at development block level. Tug of war will be demonstrative, which will be organized for women in the senior category. Boys, girls, women and men will participate in junior and senior categories. For special encouragement of handicapped persons and surrendered Naxalites in Naxal violence, their participation in sports will be ensured directly at the division level.

In the meeting, the officials informed that organizing committees have been formed from the development block level to the division level. All the concerned departments have appointed nodal officers. Extensive publicity is being done from the capital to the Bastar division headquarters, district headquarters and development blocks, so that maximum youth of Bastar region can participate in it. All the preliminary preparations for the division level event, including the complete organization of the development block level and district level event, have been done. 

Officials informed that certificates and shields/mementos will be provided to the winners securing first, second and third positions at the block level. Certificates and shields/mementos will be provided along with cash prizes to the winners securing first, second and third positions in team sports and individual sports at the district level and division level. The cash prizes will be transferred to the bank accounts of the winning players through DBT. The division level winning player will be established and promoted as ‘Youth Icon of Bastar’.

ADGP Shri S.R.P. Kalluri, Secretary to Chief Minister Shri Rahul Bhagat, Secretary of Sports and Youth Welfare Department Shri Himshikhar Gupta, Director Smt. Tanuja Salam and other senior officers were present in the meeting. Collectors, Superintendents of Police, Chief Executive Officers of Zila Panchayat and district level officers of all the districts of Bastar division joined the meeting virtually.
