Lunglei HPC Vice Chairman Pu V. Malsawmtluanga Launches the HPC-MBBA Inter-District Basketball Tournament 2024
The Lunglei High Powered Committee (HPC), in collaboration with the Mizoram Basketball Association (MBBA) and Lunglei District Basketball Association (LDBBA), inaugurated the HPC-MBBA Inter-District Basketball Tournament 2024 (grand finale) at Chanmari Hall in Lunglei, officiated by Lunglei HPC Vice Chairman and MLA Pu V. Malsawmtluanga.
During the inauguration, Pu V. Malsawmtluanga emphasized the importance of basketball for the youth of Mizoram, noting the need for improved facilities and support for aspiring players. He mentioned that basketball serves not only as a source of entertainment but also as a means for personal growth and community engagement. The Minister highlighted the role of sports in enhancing discipline and teamwork, which are crucial for success in various aspects of life. He also pointed out that the government is committed to providing ample resources and support for sports development.
At the grand finale of the HPC-MBBA Inter-District Basketball Tournament 2024, Second-in-Command Lt Col. Raju Mondal of the 20th Battalion Assam Rifles was a special guest. LDBBA Joint Secretary Pu Gilbert Renthlei, along with LDBBA President Pu Moses Lalrinchhana Chinzah, expressed their gratitude and shared insights about the tournament. The MBBA President Pu R. Lalnunpuia and MBBA General Secretary Pu Zomuanpuia also contributed remarks. On October 17, 2024, the General Secretary of Champhai Basketball Association, Tv. DK Lalchhanhima, spoke at the event. The tournament included referee certification training by the MBBA, culminating in the final match between Chaltlang Basketball Club and Ramthar Basketball Club.
The HPC-MBBA Inter-District Basketball Tournament 2024 took place from October 29 to November 2, 2024, at Chanmari Hall, Lunglei, featuring teams from multiple districts, including Aizawl, Lunglei, Champhai, Kolasib, and Lawngtlai. In the final match, Chaltlang Basketball Club emerged victorious against Ramthar Basketball Club with a score of 73-59, claiming the championship title. Dennis Vanlalchhuanga from Chaltlang Basketball Club, wearing Jersey No. 3, was awarded the title of Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the tournament.
