Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav emphasized the importance of promptly informing the police in cases of digital arrest or other cyber crimes. He stated that awareness, courage in facing cyber fraudsters, and swift police action are essential to prevent these crimes. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is also making efforts to raise awareness on this issue. In his recent Mann Ki Baat program, the Prime Minister advised against fear of digital arrest, urging people to pause, think, and take action for protection. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav shared these insights with the media during a visit to the State Cyber Police Headquarters. Notably, on November 9, the Cyber Police acted immediately in the case of a digital arrest involving a resident of Arera Colony, Bhopal, conducting a live raid to rescue the individual and prevent cyber fraud amounting to crores of rupees. Dr. Yadav visited the headquarters to commend the state’s Cyber Police. This case is likely one of the first live raids in response to a digital arrest in both the country and the world.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav appreciated the efficiency and prompt action of the Cyber​​Police. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav praised Director General of Police Shri Sudhir Saxena, Additional Director General of Police Shri Yogesh Deshmukh, DIG Cyber ​​Cell Shri Yusuf Qureshi and Sub Inspector Cyber ​​Shri Sachin Yadav who quickly reached the spot.

No need to be afraid of digital arrest

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav praised the promptness shown by the police team in cyber crime and described it as exemplary and inspiring. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the people are often unaware of the proceedings of CBI, ED, etc., and cunning criminals trap such people. Madhya Pradesh Police came into action as soon as the information was received and took concrete action and set an example to the country and the world in this case of cyber fraud through digital arrest. If timely information is given to the police and prompt action is taken, crime can be avoided and such criminals can also be caught. We are proud of the police officers and employees. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav also talked to Shri Rajeev Oberoi, who gave information to the police, on mobile.

Cyber​​police station will be established in every district and cyber desk in every police station of the state

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that work is going on to make cyber police hi-tech in the state. Along with starting cyber police station in every district, cyber desk is being established in every police station of the state. Cyber ​​helpline number 1930 will also be made more effective. By running a large-scale cyber awareness campaign in the state, information about measures to prevent cyber crime will be given to the people.

Advisories are issued regularly to avoid cyber crimes

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that cyber crimes and complaints are increasing every year. In the year 2019, approximately four thousand complaints were received, whereas in the year 2024, approximately five lakh complaints have been received so far. About 24 thousand police officers, judicial officers and public prosecution officers were trained through 259 training programmes in the last five years for prevention of cyber crimes. In the last five years, about 31 lakh citizens including students were made aware through cyber awareness programmes. Cyber ​​Police has been regularly issuing advisories related to fraud in the name of electricity bill payment and custom duty, pension fraud, online telegram task and digital arrest. The state government has also received awards at the national level for awareness regarding the prevention of cyber crimes.

ED and CBI officer became digital arrest on call received from virtual number of Dubai and Syria

On the incident related to the digital arrest in Arera Colony, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that on November 9, his acquaintance Shri Rajeev Oberoi informed the cyber police about the digital arrest of a person. Without wasting a moment, the police team reached the house of victim Vivek Oberoi (who is a corporate sector entrepreneur in Dubai) located in Arera Colony. The team found that the victim had been digitally arrested by unknown cyber fraudsters posing as ED, CBI officers and calling them from virtual numbers in Dubai and Syria. He was kept under digital arrest for six hours in the room of his own house from 1 pm onwards. Personal information and banking details of the victim and his family were collected by cyber fraudsters and when they did not disclose, they were threatened with arrest and harm to the family members. They were also told not to tell anyone about the digital arrest.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that after the cyber police raid, the video call was immediately disconnected by the fraudsters. By giving proper counseling to the victim, the team took him out of the virtual world of digital arrest of phone and laptop. The fraud worth crores that was happening to them was stopped in real time. The victim himself said that if the police team had not reached quickly today, he would have transferred crores of rupees to the fraudsters and would have endured the torture of digital arrest in his own home for a long time. Madhya Pradesh Police and State Cyber ​​Police were thanked by the victim and his family members.

Appropriate efforts to prevent cyber crimes

In the last 5 years, about 24,000 police officers, judicial officers, and public prosecution officers have been trained in about 259 training programmes in the state. About 31 lakh citizens (students, women, elderly etc.) were made aware through 4700 thousand cyber awareness programmes. Advisories have been regularly issued related to new cyber crimes (digital arrest in the name of electricity bill payment, custom duty, pension fraud, online telegram task, etc.)

National level awards received

Madhya Pradesh has received national level awards for the remarkable work done to prevent cyber crime. The awards bagged by the state include NCRB (MHA) award in 2021 and 2022, DSCI (Capacity Building) award in 2018 and 2022, Cyber ​​Cop of the Year award in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022 and FICCI (Capacity Building) award in the year 2022.
