Lok Sabha elections on May 20 in Mumbai: District administration ready for polling.
Lok Sabha 24: Mumbai – Both ’30- Mumbai South Central’ and ’31- Mumbai South’ in Mumbai city district will witness voting for the Lok Sabha general election from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, May 20. All preparations by the Mumbai city district administration for polling are completed and ready. In this celebration of democracy, all voters of the district are requested to participate spontaneously. Collector of Mumbai city and District Election Officer Sanjay Yadav appeals for participation and urges voters to exercise their right to vote.
During a press conference held at the Mumbai City Collector’s Office, Mr. Yadav mentioned that 15 candidates are contesting in the ’30-Mumbai South Central’ Lok Sabha Constituency elections, while 14 candidates are contesting in the ’31-Mumbai South’ Lok Sabha Constituency.
Mumbai City District comprises two Lok Sabha constituencies, namely ’30-Mumbai South Central’ and ’31-Mumbai South’. The district has a total of 2,490,238 voters and 2,520 polling stations. Voting will be held in the district on Monday, May 20 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., with vote counting scheduled for June 4.
Facilities Available at Polling Stations:
There are 2,520 polling booths in Mumbai city district. The administration is providing all facilities for voters at these polling stations. Assured Minimum Facilities at polling stations in both Lok Sabha Constituencies of Mumbai City District include provision of drinking water, pavilions, toilets, ramps for disabled voters, volunteers, wheelchairs, and electricity supply. Voter Information Slips have been distributed to all registered voters.
15,000 Employees for Voting in Mumbai City District:
Approximately 15,000 officers and employees have been appointed for polling in the ’30-Mumbai South Central’ and ’31-Mumbai South’ Lok Sabha Constituencies under Mumbai City District for May 20. Mr. Yadav emphasized that voting will be transparent, impartial, and fear-free, underscoring the readiness of the district administration for the election.
Free vehicle arrangement for Disabled and Senior citizens of Mumbai on polling day – 20th May
Mumbai South and Mumbai South Central Lok Sabha Elections will witness voting in both constituencies on Monday, May 20, from 7 am to 6 pm. Transportation services are arranged for disabled and senior citizen voters in these districts on polling day. The administration provides free vehicles, and Disability Coordination Officers are appointed for each assembly constituency to assist differently-abled voters with free travel.
It is urged that the maximum number of disabled and senior citizen voters in the district utilize this service to exercise their right to vote. Collector and District Election Officer Sanjay Yadav has made this appeal. Guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India regarding voter amenities cater to voters with disabilities and senior citizens, especially those above the age of 85. Facilities are instructed to be provided at polling stations accordingly.
Mumbai city’s polling day is meticulously planned through the district election system, with special facilities for disabled and senior citizens. Coordination officers have been appointed constituency-wise to assist differently-abled voters in reaching their polling stations. Each assembly constituency has one Disability Coordination Officer appointed.
Ten low-floor buses are provided by Best Bus Services for senior citizen voters and handicapped individuals. The mobile numbers of Constituency-wise Disability Coordinating Officers are given to BEST employees for contact. Bus routes are mapped by Best Bus Service officials, ensuring accessibility for voters to reach polling stations.
Additionally, five low-floor buses equipped with wheelchairs and assistants are available for disabled voters. Thirteen Disability Friends are appointed to aid disabled and senior citizen voters. Where buses cannot ply on narrow roads, one taxi per constituency is provided, totaling ten taxis. Similar arrangements are made for transportation to the polling station for disabled and senior citizen voters.”
