Tamil Nadu Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development, Udhayanidhi Stalin, Inaugurates Multiple Sports Infrastructure Projects Worth ₹9.45 Crores

Hon’ble Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development of Tamil Nadu, Thiru Udhayanidhi Stalin, inaugurated the newly established Tamil Nadu Sports Science Centre at the Chennai Olympic Academy. This facility, located on the third floor of the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium campus in Chennai, has been constructed at a cost of ₹3 crores.

He also inaugurated a new multipurpose indoor stadium built at ₹5.95 crores at the district sports complex in Sattur constituency, Virudhunagar district, and a Weightlifting Training Centre at the district sports complex in Paramakudi, Ramanathapuram district, established at ₹50 lakhs. These projects, with a total investment of ₹9.45 crores, aim to significantly boost the state’s sports infrastructure.

The Hon’ble Minister emphasized that sports do not only inspire sportspersons but also bring immense pride and joy to the citizens and fans of a nation. The success of a sportsperson elevates the morale of an entire country. Globally leading nations have focused on developing their athletes both physically and mentally with precision training. Despite many wins, Indian athletes still face challenges in securing a higher number of medals due to lack of adequate support systems.

Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Thiru M.K. Stalin and following the principles of the Dravidian Model governance, Tamil Nadu is working towards becoming a global leader in the field of sports. In line with this, not only in Chennai but across all districts, new indoor and outdoor stadiums and advanced training centres are being developed.

Modern sports require a holistic approach that includes physical fitness, mental resilience, psychological strength, injury management, and quick recovery. With this in mind, the new Tamil Nadu Sports Science Centre is equipped with cutting-edge medical and scientific tools to assess and enhance athletes’ performance through physical training, physiological, psychological, and medical support systems. The centre includes expert services from wellness specialists, nutritionists, advanced trainers, psychologists, and physiotherapists to assist in injury recovery.

Hon’ble Minister also reviewed the high-tech facilities at the new centre aimed at helping athletes train scientifically for national and international competitions.

He later inaugurated the multipurpose indoor stadium at the district sports complex in Sattur, constructed at ₹5.95 crores. The stadium includes a multipurpose hall, rooms for trainers and athletes, VIP galleries, a wooden court, storage areas for equipment, and advanced lighting systems. It is equipped to host and train for games like volleyball, basketball, table tennis, and badminton.

He also inaugurated the Weightlifting Training Centre at the district sports complex in Paramakudi, Ramanathapuram district, built at a cost of ₹50 lakhs.

The event was attended by Hon’ble Minister for Rural Development Thiru I. Periyasamy, Hon’ble Minister for Milk and Dairy Development Thiru R.S. Rajakannappan, Hon’ble Minister for Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments Thiru P.K. Sekarbabu, MLAs Thiru I. Paranthaman (Egmore), Thiru K.S. Moorthy (Sattur), Thiru S. Murugesan (Paramakudi), Additional Chief Secretary Atulya Misra, I.A.S., Member Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority Thiru S. Dharmaraj Sarathi, I.A.S., Joint Director Dr. Ashok Sigamani, and other government officials and trainers.
