Mock Drill for Industrial and Chemical Disaster Management Successfully Conducted in 10 Districts of the State
With the objective of evaluating the preparedness for swift and effective relief and rescue operations during industrial and chemical disasters, a successful mock drill
was conducted in the districts of Bhopal, Dhar, Raisen, Ujjain, Dewas, Singrauli, Chhindwara, Jabalpur, Indore, and Sehore. The exercise was organized under the joint aegis of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Madhya Pradesh State Disaster Management Authori ty (MPSDMP), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF).
The main objective of the mock drill was to test the coordination among related departments, industrial units, and local
administration, quick response, and efficient use of resources in case of a real disaster situation in industrial areas. Through the mock drill, the preparedness for industrial and chemical accidents, gas leakage, fire incidents, immediate treatment of the injured, cordoning off and controlling the affected area was assessed.
On this occasion, Director General of Home Guard, Civil Defense and Disaster Management Department Shri Arvind Kumar, NDMA’s Senior Advisor Retired Brigadier Shri Ravinder Gurung, NDRF Deputy Inspector General Shri M.K. Sharma, SDERF Deputy Inspector Ge neral Shri Manish Kumar Agrawal, MPSDMP Deputy Director Shri Saurabh Singh, Senior Advisor Shri Brijesh Jaiswal, and Shri Kamalendra Singh Parihar from the State Command Centre, Divisional Commandant and Commandant Shri Kamalnath Dhurve were specially present.
Collectors, Superintendents of Police, Home Guard, Fire Brigade, Health Department, Disaster Management, Civil Defense, representatives from industrial units,
public representatives and local citizens of the respective districts actively participated in the mock drill. During the exercise, a hypothetical gas leak situation was created in an industrial unit, and demonstration of immediate deployment of relief and rescue teams, firefighting operations, providing first aid to the injured and transporting them to the nearest hospital, and securing the affected area was carried out.
Director General Shri Arvind Kumar appreciated all the departments and districts for the successful organization of the mock drill and said that such exercises strengthen our disaster response capacity and help in minimizing loss of life and financial damage in real disaster situations.
Shri Ravinder Gurung highlighted the need for modern technology and swift coordination in disaster management. DIG NDRF Shri M.K. Sharma and DIG SDERF Shri Manish Kumar Agrawal also shed light on the importance of mock drills. MPSDMP Deputy Director Shri Saurabh Singh emphasized the need for such regular exercises to str engthen the disaster management structure at the state level.
The state disaster management system remains ever-prepared and vigilant for the safety of the public and effective management of disasters. In the coming time, such mock drills will also be organized in other districts of the state so that the disaster management system can be made even more efficient at every level.
