“YSRCP MP Midhun Reddy House Arrested Amid Political Tensions in Punganur”
Police placed P. Midhun Reddy, YSR Congress Party MP from Rajampet, under house arrest in Tirupati on Sunday as he prepared to visit Punganur in Chittoor district to meet party workers. The police cited concerns over potential unrest and denied permission for his visit. Officers visited his residence to convey the decision, deploying a sizable force outside to prevent gatherings of YSRCP supporters.
This incident follows recent tensions in Punganur, where Telugu Desam Party (TDP) workers obstructed former minister P. Ramachandra Reddy, Midhun Reddy’s father and YSRCP MLA, from visiting the area. The constituency has been politically charged since the June 4 election results. Ramachandra Reddy, elected for a fourth consecutive term, faced opposition from TDP workers who justified their actions by citing past incidents involving their party leadership.
YSRCP alleges that TDP activists have been targeting its supporters in Punganur, including physical assaults and property damage. Midhun Reddy, reacting to his house arrest, stated his intention to visit and support affected party members. His father, Ramachandra Reddy, has petitioned the Andhra Pradesh High Court to maintain previous security measures, a move echoed by Midhun Reddy in his own court filing. The High Court has requested the state government to respond to these petitions.
