Gujarat Titans Secure IPL 2025 Playoff Spot with Dominant Ten-Wicket Win Over Delhi Capitals

New Delhi : Gujarat Titans sealed their place in the IPL 2025 playoffs with a commanding ten-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday. B Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill were the stars of the show, scoring unbeaten 108 and 93 respectively to chase down a challenging target with ease.

Delhi Capitals, powered by a magnificent 112 not out from KL Rahul, posted a strong total of 199 for 3 in their 20 overs. Rahul’s innings was a masterclass, featuring 14 fours and four sixes, anchoring the Delhi innings and giving his team a formidable score to defend.

However, Gujarat Titans made the chase look effortless. Sudharsan and Gill walked in confidently and controlled the innings with their steady and risk-free batting. They completed the chase in just 19 overs without losing a wicket, showing great composure and teamwork.

Sudharsan was particularly impressive, scoring his second IPL century off just 61 balls, including 12 fours and 4 sixes. Gill was equally excellent, scoring 93 runs off 53 balls with three fours and seven sixes. Their partnership set the tone for Gujarat Titans, ensuring a comfortable win and taking their team to the top of the points table.

This victory marks the third time Gujarat Titans have qualified for the IPL playoffs, establishing themselves as one of the strongest teams this season. Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings have also secured their playoff spots. The battle for the remaining places continues among Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, and Lucknow Super Giants.

Sudharsan came into the game as an Impact Player replacing Prasidh Krishna and started aggressively by pulling Axar Patel for a boundary. Gill immediately responded by hitting a six off the first over. Sudharsan continued his assault with a six off T Natarajan and several boundaries off other bowlers as the team reached 59 without loss at the end of the powerplay.

Both batsmen maintained their strong rhythm. Sudharsan reached his fifty in just 30 balls, while Gill brought up his half-century off 33 balls with elegant shots including a powerful six off Kuldeep Yadav. Together, they built a strong foundation for the chase, keeping the pressure on the Delhi bowlers.

Despite the frequent bowling changes from Delhi Capitals, Sudharsan and Gill remained unshaken. Sudharsan reached his century off 56 balls with a six, celebrating with a fist pump and a focused look at the Gujarat dugout. He finished the innings with a six, securing a comprehensive ten-wicket win for his team.

Earlier, KL Rahul was in brilliant form for Delhi Capitals. His unbeaten 112 was marked by exquisite strokeplay and powerful hitting. Rahul also created history by becoming the first player to score IPL centuries for three different teams—Punjab Kings, Lucknow Super Giants, and now Delhi Capitals.

Rahul’s innings was supported by useful contributions from Abishek Porel, who scored 30 off 19 balls, and captain Axar Patel, who made 25 off 16 balls. Tristan Stubbs remained unbeaten on 21.

Batting first, Rahul set the tone with boundaries off the opening over bowled by Mohammed Siraj. Even as Faf du Plessis struggled and was dismissed early, Rahul continued to dominate the Gujarat bowling attack. His aggressive strokeplay included cuts, pulls, and sixes off bowlers like Kagiso Rabada and Rashid Khan.

Rahul also became the fastest Indian and third-fastest overall to reach 8,000 runs in men’s T20 cricket during this innings. His performance thrilled the home crowd, who cheered loudly as he reached his half-century and then his century.

Despite Rahul’s heroics, Delhi Capitals fell short in the end due to Gujarat Titans’ exceptional opening partnership. Gujarat’s openers displayed outstanding skill, blending aggression with caution to achieve a record chase without losing a wicket.

Match Summary:

  • Delhi Capitals: 199/3 in 20 overs
(KL Rahul 112*, Abishek Porel 30; Arshad Khan 1-7, Prasidh Krishna 1-40)
