BMO Suspended and Contractual Doctor Relieved of Duty

Financial Aid of ₹4 Lakhs Each Handed Over to Bereaved Families

Raipur : Following allegations of negligence and demands for money during postmortem procedures at the Primary Health Centre in Raghunathpur, under Lundra development block of Surguja district, Collector Shri Vilas Bhoskar has suspended the Block Medical Officer (BMO) of Lundra and immediately relieved the posted doctor at the PHC from his duties.

The incident pertains to a tragic case in the village of Silisila Dhoha Jharia, where two young boys drowned in a deep and unsafe pit created for fish farming. The victims, Suraj Giri and Jugnu Giri—both five-year-old cousins—lost their lives in the accident. Family members alleged that the doctor at Raghunathpur PHC demanded ₹10,000 per body for conducting the postmortem and refused to proceed without payment. It was only after pressure and complaints from local villagers on Monday that the postmortem was finally carried out.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Dr. Raghvendra Chaubey, Block Medical Officer of the Community Health Centre in Dhaurpur, had shown laxity in exercising administrative control over his subordinates and was negligent in fulfilling his duties. The inquiry also found that Dr. Aman Jaiswal, a contractual medical officer posted at the Raghunathpur PHC, acted in violation of service conduct rules. Consequently, he has been relieved of his responsibilities with immediate effect.

It is worth noting that Collector Shri Vilas Bhoskar personally visited the Raghunathpur PHC to inspect the facility and met with the grieving families. He offered condolences and provided financial assistance of ₹4 lakh each under RBC Rule 6/4.
