Healthy Lunglei District Campaign Underway in Lungsen Aspirational Block
Lunglei – Under the leadership of the Lunglei District Deputy Commissioner and with funding received through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of RailTel Corporation of India Limited, New Delhi, the Healthy Lunglei District Campaign is currently being conducted across various villages within the Lungsen Aspirational Block. As part of this campaign, awareness and screening camps focused on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are being organized to educate and screen local residents.
The initiative officially commenced on May 9, 2025, and is being implemented by the Lunglei District Health & Family Welfare Department. Teams of doctors, nurses, and health workers are visiting different villages to conduct screenings for hypertension and diabetes, while also providing necessary medications and raising awareness on healthy lifestyle practices and disease prevention.
This campaign is planned to run throughout May and June, with a target of screening at least 3,000 individuals aged 30 and above for high blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Health camps have already been conducted in ten villages: Lungsen, Zawlpui, New Vuakmual, Putlungasih, Kauchhuah, Phairuangchhuah, Belthei, Phairuangkai, Rotlang West, and Chhumkhum.
From these ten villages, a total of 481 individuals have been screened so far. Among them, 23 new cases of hypertension and 27 new cases of diabetes mellitus have been detected. Additionally, 80 individuals with previously known hypertension and 50 with known diabetes were also examined.
