Lunglei DC Discusses Site Selection and Requirements for Territorial Army ‘Mizo Company’ Headquarters
Lunglei : In line with the Government of Mizoram’s proposal to establish a Territorial Army (TA) ‘Mizo Company’, a meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Lunglei Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pi Navneet Mann to discuss potential site selection in Lunglei and various essential requirements for setting up the unit.
The meeting was attended by officials including the Executive Engineer of PHED, EE of P&ED, the LR&S Settlement Officer, DIPRO, and SDC, along with officers from the 166 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army), Home & Hearth, Assam, including Lt. Col. Prashant Kakade, Officer Commanding of the ‘Mizo Company,’ and Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs).
DC Pi Navneet Mann stated that the formation of a Mizo Company under the TA is a direct initiative of the Government of Mizoram. She said this would not only strengthen coordination between civilians and the armed forces but would also create more job opportunities for Mizo youths in national service. She emphasized the importance of cooperation between government departments and local residents in ensuring the successful functioning of the unit.
Kawmzawl area in Lunglei has been tentatively identified as the site for the proposed company headquarters, within the army land area, with approximately 20 acres earmarked. A Preliminary Notification for land acquisition was issued on 4th June 2025 by the Lunglei District Collector and Deputy Commissioner.
Provisions for water supply from PHED and electricity from P&ED, among other infrastructure needs, are being communicated to the State Government for further action. Necessary steps will be taken to expedite the process of establishing the Territorial Army Mizo Company at the proposed site.
