PWD Minister Meets NHIDCL Officials and Mizoram Tipper Association Representatives on NH-6 Road Development Issues

Aizawl : Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Pu Vanlalhlana convened a meeting today in his office chamber with officials from the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and representatives of the Mizoram Tipper Association (MTA), Kolasib Sub-Headquarters. The discussion focused on the construction and maintenance of NH-6 (Vairengte–Sairang).

During the meeting, the Minister noted that the Vairengte–Sairang highway project was entrusted to NHIDCL by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) in 2020. However, due to NHIDCL’s delays in execution, the PWD had initially undertaken some works temporarily until NHIDCL assumed full responsibility, he added. He clarified that since the National Highway falls under the jurisdiction of MoRTH, both construction and maintenance are typically funded by the Ministry, and agencies like BRO, PWD, or NHIDCL are designated for execution.

Minister Pu Vanlalhlana further informed that due to NHIDCL’s inaction, the Mizoram Government has been compelled to intervene to prevent inconvenience to the public. For the current financial year, ₹200 crore has been allocated for road maintenance, out of which ₹111.74 crore has already been spent, he said.

Several important concerns were discussed during the meeting. It was acknowledged that the NH-6 project remains under NHIDCL’s purview, and the PWD is yet to receive any direct funds from the Centre for this work. Due to poor road conditions caused by delayed completion, MTA members have been helping in road repair using their own resources. They requested that the government allow 50 boulder trips through MPWD to support ongoing work. The Minister assured that their request would be considered.

The coordination meeting on the Vairengte–Sairang highway included the presence of:

  • Er. H. Ginzalala, MLA and Adviser to the Chief Minister (Technical)
  • Pu K. Lalthawmmawia, Commissioner & Secretary, PWD
  • Er. H. Zoramliana, Engineer-in-Chief, PWD
  • Er. Robin Lalrinawma, Chief Engineer
  • Er. Eddie C. Zothansanga, Superintending Engineer
  • Er. R. Lalduhthanga, Senior Executive Engineer
  • Pu Rahul Jajoria, Deputy General Manager (Projects), NHIDCL
  • Pu Saksham Tyagi, Manager (Projects), NHIDCL
  • Along with representatives from the Mizoram Tipper Association (MTA).
