Swachh Survekshan 2024-25: Uttar Pradesh Shines, Lucknow Ranked 3rd Cleanest City in India

Lucknow/New Delhi – Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, Uttar Pradesh has achieved unprecedented success in the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25. The state secured top ranks in urban sanitation and cleanliness, receiving multiple prestigious awards across various categories.

In a grand ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, President Droupadi Murmu conferred the awards for the ninth edition of the Swachh Survekshan. Cabinet Minister A.K. Sharma accepted the awards on behalf of Uttar Pradesh.

Lucknow Receives Presidential Award

Lucknow ranked 3rd among cities with a population over 10 lakh and earned a historic 7-star Garbage-Free City (GFC) rating, a first for Uttar Pradesh. The Presidential Award was presented by the Hon’ble President, marking a milestone for the capital’s sanitation and waste management efforts.

Prayagraj: Cleanest Ganga City & Swachh Mahakumbh 2025 Winner

Prayagraj Municipal Corporation was honoured as the Cleanest Ganga City for its commendable efforts in maintaining the cleanliness of the sacred Ganga river. The city also received the Swachh Mahakumbh 2025 Award for innovative and sustainable sanitation initiatives during the Kumbh Mela.

Gorakhpur’s Dual Triumph

Gorakhpur secured 3rd place in the ‘Safaimitra Surakshit Sheher’ category and 4th among cities with 3–10 lakh population. Additionally, it achieved a 5-star GFC rating, highlighting its progress and commitment to sanitation worker safety.

Agra: Emerging Clean City

Agra was declared UP’s Emerging Clean City, ranking 32nd nationally. The city also received a 5-star GFC rating, reflecting its growing commitment to urban sanitation.

Strong Showing from Moradabad and Other Cities

Moradabad ranked 10th nationally in the 3–10 lakh population category. In the medium-town category, Bijnor ranked 29th and Shamsabad 95th, showing the wide success of UP’s sanitation efforts.

State-Wide Recognition for Swachh Initiatives

Uttar Pradesh was awarded the Swachh Mahakumbh 2025 Award for its innovative sanitation practices during the Mahakumbh, blending cultural heritage with modern sanitation standards.

Collective Effort Behind Success

Urban Development Minister A.K. Sharma credited CM Yogi’s vision and the joint efforts of citizens, municipalities, and local bodies. He affirmed that the state aims to become India’s cleanest in the coming years.

High Ranking Due to Rigorous Monitoring

The Principal Secretary of Urban Development highlighted that UP’s performance in categories like GFC, ODF++ and Water+ reflects the impact of strict monitoring, training, and supervision. He emphasized that UP is on a transformative journey to lead the nation in urban sanitation.
