‘Lakhpati Didis’ Emerging as Role Models for Youth
Women becoming financially empowered through centering plate and brick businesses; now creating jobs for others through the Bihaan Scheme
Raipur : Under the good governance of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Lakhpati Didis (women earning over ₹1 lakh annually) are becoming inspiring figures for the youth. Through their hard work, these women are not only achieving financial independence but also creating employment opportunities for others, setting an example in society.
Mrs. Narmada Nishad from village Sarkada in Chhura block of Gariaband district, and Mrs. Devli Netam from village Jidar in Mainpur block, have become role models for other women. Similarly, Mrs. Satabai from village Kharkhara, Mrs. Jhneshwari Sahu from village Rani Partewa (both in Chhura block), Mrs. Jageshwari Netam from village Matarbahara (Jai Maa Santoshi group), Kaushilya from village Dabanai, and Rameshwari Vishwakarma from village Jadapadar (Sati Self-Help Group, Mainpur block) have started centering plate businesses and are now earning in lakhs.
These women took group loans to start livelihood activities like brick-making and centering plate supply. As a result, they have strengthened their financial position and are helping other women become self-reliant by providing them with job opportunities. The self-help group (SHG) women are currently supplying centering plates for houses being built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in rural areas.
Under the Chhattisgarh State Rural Livelihood Mission—Bihaan, these SHG women have become shining examples for others. Previously, most of them worked as daily wage laborers while their husbands earned modest incomes as masons, contributing around ₹7,000–8,000 monthly. Through their SHGs, the women took loans, devised business plans, and began earning by manufacturing bricks, supplying centering plates, and providing construction materials.
So far, these women have supplied bricks, centering plates, and other materials for many housing projects, generating lakhs in income. On average, they are now earning over ₹3 lakh annually through brick-making, centering plate supply, and related services. The demand for their materials now extends beyond their villages to nearby areas, including for private construction and PMAY houses.
These Lakhpati Didis are not only transforming their own lives but are also inspiring other rural women to take up similar livelihood ventures.
