Mumbai, Aug 2025 : Minister of State for Social Justice, Madhuri Misal, has directed the Social Justice Department to submit a proposal for acquiring land from the Water Resources Department for the construction of a grand memorial dedicated to Subhedar Ramji Ambedkar, father of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, at Mayani (Taluka Khatav) in Satara district.
The meeting, held at the Ministry, was attended by former MLA Dilip Yelgaonkar, Social Justice Department’s Deputy Secretary Mr. Bagul, Assistant Commissioner of the Social Welfare Directorate Sheetal Sontakke, and Satara Assistant Commissioner Sunil Jadhav. Satara District Collector Santosh Patil participated in the meeting via video conferencing.
Minister Misal stated that Subhedar Ramji Ambedkar was in charge of overseeing the construction of the British-era Mayani Dam. She emphasized that establishing a memorial at this location would be a significant tribute to his legacy, marking it as the first memorial dedicated to him. She suggested that the memorial’s architectural design should be prepared by renowned architects.
Furthermore, she instructed that the responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of the memorial should be entrusted to the local self-governing bodies, with the Gram Panchayat passing a formal resolution to that effect. Minister Misal also directed that all necessary formalities be completed as per regulations and the proposal be submitted accordingly.
