Eastern Rail B. R. Singh hospital introduces minimally invasive Radiofrequency Ablation for advanced pain management.

B.R. Singh Hospital, Eastern Railway, has achieved a significant milestone in advanced pain management by introducing minimally invasive Radiofrequency (RF) ablation for the treatment of chronic pain. This modern technique is aimed at providing long-term relief to patients suffering from persistent pain, thereby improving their quality of life and reducing dependence on medication.

The newly installed Radio Frequency equipment at B.R. Singh Hospital is being used in the Pain Clinic to manage complex pain cases with notable success. Radiofrequency ablation works by using heat generated through RF waves to target specific nerves, thereby interrupting the transmission of pain signals to the brain. Successful RF ablation can result in prolonged pain relief and decreased need for analgesics.

Two recent cases at the hospital highlight the impact of this advancement: a patient with chronic low back pain caused by lumbar facet joint arthropathy experienced complete pain relief following RF lesioning of the median branch of lumbar nerves, while another patient with hepatocellular carcinoma, suffering from severe abdominal pain, underwent celiac plexus neurolysis with RF lesioning of the splanchnic nerves and is now almost pain-free.

This development has been made possible with direct participation of Dr. Ananya Kanti Roy, Additional Chief Health Director (IC), Pain Clinic, and the Anaesthesiology team at B.R. Singh Hospital, mentored by Honorary Visiting Specialist Dr. Chinmoy Roy and with the constant support of Dr. Debasis Guha, MD, B.R. Singh Hospital.

The introduction of RF ablation marks a new horizon in the hospital’s pain management capabilities, reaffirming Eastern Railway’s commitment to providing modern, patient-centric healthcare solutions.
