State Level Multi-Stakeholders Consultation On Safeguarding The Girl Child Held

Aizawl, Aug 2025: The Juvenile Justice Committee of the Gauhati High Court organized a “State Level Multi-Stakeholders Consultation on Safeguarding the Girl Child: Towards a Safer and Enabling Environment for Her in India” at the Conference Hall of the Gauhati High Court, Aizawl Bench.

The event was graced by Minister of Social Welfare, Women & Child Development, Pi Lalrinpuii, who addressed the gathering. She expressed her appreciation for the initiative, stating that it was heartening to convene such an important consultation on advancing measures for the protection of young girls. She highlighted that Mizoram is among the leading states in literacy across India, and this strength must also reflect in better safeguarding measures for young girls compared to many other states.

She emphasized that while Mizo society highly values and respects women, continuous progress is needed. Beyond ensuring safety within families, schools, and communities, she stressed the importance of collective responsibility—not only from the government but also from churches, community organizations, voluntary groups, and educators—to create a secure environment for girls.

Justice Michael Zothankhuma, Judge of the Gauhati High Court, also addressed the consultation. He noted that India has established several laws to ensure the rights and protection of young girls, and it is crucial to uphold and enforce them effectively. He further remarked that organizing such a consultation in Mizoram was highly significant, expressing hope that it would contribute to meaningful improvements in safeguarding girls across the state.

The consultation featured intensive discussions under key themes such as:

  • “Safeguarding the Girl Child: Towards a Safer and Enabling Environment for Her in India”
  • “Creating a Safer World – Role of Judiciary, Enforcement Agencies and Other Resource Agencies”

Presentations were delivered by the Women & Child Development Department, Health & Family Welfare Department, School Education Department, Mizoram State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR), and the Rural Development & Administration Department, followed by interactive deliberations.
