State Government’s Commitment: Stronger Sports Infrastructure Ahead Dhamtari and Kurud to Get Multipurpose Indoor Sports Complexes

Raipur, Aug 2025 : Reaffirming its commitment to enhancing sports facilities, the Chhattisgarh government has approved new infrastructure projects aimed at empowering athletes with modern resources, encouraging talent, and ensuring excellence in performance. As part of this initiative, administrative approval has been granted for the construction of Indoor Badminton Halls / Multipurpose Sports Complexes in Dhamtari and Kurud. These projects come under the Sports Promotion Scheme, which focuses on expanding infrastructure and nurturing talent.

Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai has been paying special attention to sports infrastructure development, training, and incentive programs. The government’s scheme to award prize money ranging from ₹1 crore to ₹3 crore to Olympic medal winners reflects this commitment. This not only boosts athletes’ morale but also inspires future generations to pursue sports. Additionally, under the Chhattisgarh Sports Promotion Scheme, initiatives such as upgrading playgrounds, providing advanced equipment, financially supporting sports clubs, and encouraging traditional games are being undertaken.

According to the Collector of Dhamtari, each project in Dhamtari and Kurud has received administrative sanction worth about ₹5 crore. These complexes will provide modern facilities for a wide range of indoor games including badminton, table tennis, carrom, chess, ludo and snakes & ladders, dart board, snooker, archery, yoga rooms, squash, basketball, and pickleball. Importantly, the equipment and infrastructure will meet international standards.

The complexes will not only focus on sports facilities but will also cater to the needs of players and spectators. Provisions include player rest and preparation rooms, organized waiting areas for spectators and participants, first-aid facilities, and separate washrooms for men and women. These arrangements will ensure athletes face no inconvenience during training or competitions.

Currently, many young people around Dhamtari and Kurud are active in sports but lack adequate facilities and training centers, limiting their potential to reach state and national levels. The new complexes will provide quality training opportunities, enabling athletes to hone their talent and compete at higher levels.

The multipurpose sports complexes in Dhamtari and Kurud are set to become milestones in the state’s sporting journey, paving the way for athletes from the region to shine not only at the state level but also on national and international platforms, bringing pride to Chhattisgarh.
