Gwalior and Jabalpur to become new Metropolitan Regions in MP Soon: CM Dr. Yadav
Sept 2025 : Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that continuous efforts are being made to enhance civic amenities in the state’s urban areas. After approving metropolitan regions in Bhopal and Indore, the state will soon grant approval for two new metropolitan regions in Gwalior and Jabalpur. These regions will further strengthen urban infrastructure.
CM Dr. Yadav made these remarks while addressing an event at Hotel Jehanuma Palace on the occasion of Free Press completing 42 years. On this occasion, he honored mayors from 16 municipal corporations across the state, including Bhopal Mayor Smt. Malti Rai, and Indore Mayor Shri Pushya Mitra Bhargava. Outstanding councilors from Bhopal were also felicitated.
Achievements in Cleanliness, Metro Rail, and Smart Cities
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that following the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Madhya Pradesh has made remarkable progress in the field of cleanliness, with several urban bodies winning national awards every year. Along with Bhopal and Indore, citizens of other cities will soon benefit from metro rail services.
Urban transformation is underway with an investment of ₹1,550 crore under the Kayakalp campaign for road development. Under Smart City Mission-2, ₹370 crore has been allocated for Jabalpur and Ujjain, with major projects like the Mahakal Corridor redevelopment in Ujjain already completed. The state currently operates eight airports, with several more set to commence operations soon.
Special Mention of Khajuraho
CM Dr. Yadav highlighted the Khajuraho Municipal Council in Chhatarpur district, noting that despite its small population, it holds a unique status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is equipped with both an airport and a railway station. The Khajuraho is globally recognised as a premier tourist destination.
Urban Bodies to Chart Future Development Roadmaps
The Chief Minister praised Free Press for honoring the mayors and suggested that the Urban Development and Housing Department organize state-level meetings and workshops with elected representatives to design future roadmaps for holistic urban development.
Urban Development Minister Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya said the department is actively working to fulfill the Chief Minister’s vision. Urban bodies in Madhya Pradesh have excelled not only in cleanliness but also in several other areas.
Earlier, Free Press Chairman Shri Abhishek Karnani and Associate Editor (Bhopal Edition) Shri Nitendra Sharma welcomed CM Dr. Yadav and other dignitaries. The event was attended by MLAs, including Shri Hemant Khandelwal, Shri Bhagwan Das Sabnani, Shri Hitanand Sharma, Shri Ashish Agrawal, Dr. Hitesh Vajpayee, and a large number of media representatives.
