Heavy Rains Trigger Flood Situation in the District, Affected Families Sheltered in Relief Camps
Administration Successfully Conducts Mock Drill to Tackle Sudden Floods
Raipur, Sept 2025 : Heavy rains in the Maikal hill regions of Kabirdham district created flood-like conditions last night. The important Chirpani Reservoir reached its maximum storage capacity, leading to an overflow. During this time, four villagers who had gone out late at night got trapped in deep waters of the reservoir. Meanwhile, on the Taregaon–Jungle road near village Bhonda, a bridge was damaged by the strong flood currents, cutting off access to several nearby villages and worsening the plight of locals.
As soon as the situation was reported, villagers immediately informed the District Flood Control Room. Collector Mr. Gopal Verma took prompt cognizance and dispatched the joint team of Home Guards and NDRF included in the district flood disaster management unit. The team comprised Home Guard officers, specialized NDRF personnel, district administration officials, and rapid action teams from various departments. By 10 AM, the joint team reached Chirpani and launched relief and rescue operations.
Present at the site were NDRF-appointed observer and 17th Battalion Commander Mr. Kamleshwar Prasad Chandel, In-charge of Disaster Management and Land Records Deputy Collector Mr. R.B. Dewangan, nodal officer for the mock drill and Deputy Collector Ms. Ruchi Shardul, Bodla ADM Mr. Sagar Singh, Tehsildar Ms. Rajshree Pandey, along with officials from the Health, Food, Forest, Transport, Livestock, and Power departments.
Collector Mr. Verma personally reached the site, monitored the relief work, and instructed officials to take swift and coordinated action. He explained that continuous rains in the hilly regions of the district had raised the water level of Chirpani Reservoir, trapping four villagers. At the same time, many villagers across the damaged Bhonda bridge had become isolated. Upon receiving the alert, the district administration and disaster management teams immediately swung into action and safely evacuated all the villagers.
Arrangements were made to accommodate affected villagers in relief camps. The Health Department team provided primary medical aid to the four rescued villagers and referred them to the Community Health Center for better treatment. In addition, flood-affected families were supplied with rations and essential food items.
